 Monte Carlo, Monaco

Located between the foot of the Southern Alps and the French Mediterranean coast, Monaco is the second-smallest independent state in the world. Monte Carlo is the wealthiest of Monaco's 4 quarters, known for its casinos, gambling, glamour, and for sightings of famous people. The permanent population is estimated at 30,000. It's pleasant climate, the gambling facilities, the tax-free income and the glamorous lifestyle have made Monaco world famous as a tourist and recreation center. With more than 300 days a year of sunshine, residents in Monaco can take advantage of the Mediterranean, and all of its seaside activities. Moreover, Monaco's close proximity to the Southern Alps, which are only 1 hour away by car, allows for easy access to the ski slopes.  For more than a century now, the aristocracy, royalty and the wealthy have discovered the pleasures of this city.

One renowned pleasure is The Monaco Grand Prix, one of the world's greatest and most challenging motor-racing events and the last 'street course' remaining in the Formula One calendar. The Monaco Grand Prix is staged around the narrow, winding streets of Monte Carlo. The main attraction of the Monaco Grand Prix is the proximity of the speeding Formula One cars to the race spectators. The twisting 77-lap circuit offers incalculable opportunities for spectators to witness the thrill of screaming engines, smoking tires and the genius of the drivers over the 263-kilometre race on a course that allows no margin for error.

A second center of pleasure, The Monte Carlo Casino, provides gaming with its most elegant setting.  Built in 1863 in the Principality of Monaco, overlooking the Mediterranean, this architectural masterpiece has been the scene of Monte-Carlo's finest hours, spawned prestigious resorts and is also home to the Monte-Carlo Opera, which stages world-renowned productions.

Join us as we explore the majesty of  Monte Carlo, drawing scrapping inspiration from this sophisticated playground.

Guest Street Artist

Janneke Smit

Hiya! I am so exited to be this month's guest designer! I am married and we have two kids; a boy and a girl. My husband and I were born and raised in the Netherlands, but our children were born in Southern California and we love living here! I like everything that has to do with design; graphic design, web design, art, interior design, photography, architecture, etc. I was introduced to scrapbooking in 2001 and I have been addicted ever since. Like most scrappers I started with paper scrapping. In 2005 I added digital scrapping and creating digital kits. Over the last few months my interest in digital layouts has changed from "looking just like a paper layout" to working with special effects on a layout that you can only do digitally. But my love for paper scrapping is still there; I need to play with paper and embellishments and get glue on my fingers every now and then. I absolutely love this month's kit with all the bright colors and fun embellishments, it is just the style I like!
