Barbados Annual Jazz Festival
|
We head to Barbados, the eastern-most Caribbean island,
for some fun in the sun and an excellent jazz festival. The island is
unique being two land masses that merged together over years after being created by the collision of the Atlantic crustal and Caribbean plates, along with a volcanic eruption.
It is a small island, but has a standard of living and education levels that
rank it right behind Canada, the US, and Puerto Rico in the Americas.
Like so
many of the surrounding countries, Barbados was settled first by Indians,
then under Spanish rule, followed by English rule bringing an influx of West
African slaves to work the fields. The inhabitants claimed
independence in 1966 formally becoming an independent state with a ruling
Prime Minister.
The
middle of the month brings a fabulous jazz festival with beach fun and
perfect temperatures. Pack your suit, your scrappy--togo--kit, and
meet me at the swim up bar. I will have the frozen drinks ready and
waiting!
