Color

Taking a peak at the winter lines in the fashion world , we take our color palette and start with a deep rich chocolate or the infamous black, we then bling it up with the rich luscious colors of a deep purple, an burnt red or a muted turquoise. To give it the final touch we add just a hint of gold or silver.

 Boulevard Hausmann, Paris

In 1893, Galeries Lafayette opened as a novelty store in the centre of Paris. It had an excellent location and was therefore popular with working class woman as well as high society. Through the years, Gallery Lafayette grew to a 96 departments store selling traditional products and novelties. Their large assortment of fabrics, ribbon and lace confirmed Galeries Lafayette position as sellers of novelty and fashion. Galeries Lafayette always organized events to stay in the centre of attention, from having airplanes land at the rooftop of the building after WWI to having famous singers sing right after WWII to bring peace and happiness back to daily Parisian life. Nowadays, Galeries Lafayette is the flagship of Parisian stores, visited by famous people from all over the world and it’s still famous for it’s fashion shows that are held weekly on Friday.

Features Editor Mireille shares her memories with us:  As a teenager I dreamed – like many teenage girls- of becoming a supermodel. When I was 14 my aunt took me to Paris. We went to shop on Hausmann Boulevard. The highlight of my trip was shopping at Galeries Lafayette. It was so glamorous. My aunt had a surprise for me. At two in the afternoon she took me with this beautiful elevator to the top floors and we had seats at this fashion show. Sitting close to the catwalk and seeing the international famous top models up close was so exciting. Galeries Lafayette will always be the ultimate shopping experience for me.

Boulevard Haussman houses Galeries Lafayette and several other 'grand magasins' (large shops) as well as several good places to have a beauty treatment or meet up with friends for a “café au lait”.  Lets take some "girl time" this month and enjoy the shopping centre of Paris.

Guest Street Artist

Denean Melcher

I live in eastern PA with my husband Bill and three kids Joey, Elena, and Emily and our cat Bailey. I am a graphic artist and I am blessed to work for a wonderful company that lets me do everything from home. I only "go to the office" once a year! I told my mom in kindergarden, after winning a blue ribbon for my art project at the town fair, that I would grow up to be an artist. I took every art course I could throughout my school years and graduated from Antonelli Art Institue with a degree in Commercial Art. I started scrapbooking in 1996 when my son was born, but I didn't become totally obsessed until I started working from home in 2004 and had more "me" time. I have always loved collecting memorabilia and have tried to hang on the memories of everyday life. And so I scrap. I want to pass these memories on for my kids to enjoy as much as I do and I want them to know how much it all meant to me. Besides scrapbooking, I make custom invitations for weddings, birthday parties, and showers and I love to alter anything! I am so honored to a part of this great team this month!!
