It's My Combo

Does a black and orange color combination make you think of Halloween? Shades of rich browns, rusty reds and golden yellows remind you of fall? Does seeing green and red together automatically turn your thoughts to Christmas? If so, you’re not alone. Studies show that color plays a major role in our memories and the way our brains process things. Sure, those are easy examples, but there is a lot more to the relevance of color combinations than you might think.
As we learned from Dora in a past issue of the magazine, color is one of the most influential aspects on the quality of our lives. We take color for granted, but research has shown that it has an incredible effect on our mood, perception, likes and dislikes. It can help us make decisions and influence our behavior. Without it, we couldn’t enjoy things nearly as much and learning new things would be much more difficult.
How does this importance of color combination carry over to our favorite hobby? Maybe your favorite colors aren’t necessarily your favorite scrapping colors. Some colors seem to get used more frequently for scrapbooking because they make a better “base” color on which to build your page. This is because they are more neutral and can be more easily paired with other colors. Choosing the right color scheme for our scrapbooking projects is very important and can either compliment your photos or distract from them.

My favorite
colors:
I adore brown
and all shades of it. I love that it can
compliment any color and is the perfect base
for any layout. I use it with ease and find
myself enjoying my layouts more so if I do
use it as a base color. It just has a way of
warming everything up with soft colors, or
defining others, and allows bold colors to
pop off a page. So my favorite scrap color
is brown.

Me Me and Me by Michelle Boeckermann.
Supplies:
Paper: BasicGrey,
Prima, Font: Stencil.
Design Note:
I love doing reverse hybrids when scrapping pictures for others. Doing the bones of the layout, scanning in, and then adding the journaling or title allows me to have the layout for my own submission, and also allows me to send to the child’s mother to finish. I used the clone stamp tool on the photo to give it the three layers of Allie.

Design
notes:
For the patterned paper I typed in all shades of blue-green and colored the
words in their corresponding colors.
Journaling:
Let's wear something blue-green today! What I am wearing right now?
Turquoise shorts and an emerald green tank
top.

My favorite
colors: I LOVE the combination of black, white and red for layouts. The stability of the black and white mixed with the bold red brings a dramatic element to your page and can’t help but catch your eye.
