Discovery Drive

 Lindsay Krauss

Welcome to this month’s Discovery Drive. This month, we asked Trace to stop and chat with us, and to show us some of her work. She has a bright, eclectic style that features layering of papers and embellishments. And she can show you that you can find embellishments in places other than your local scrap and crafting stores.

Design notes: The rub-on was a straight line sentence, but I didn’t feel that that would look right with my layout, so I cut the rub-on to break up the title. I wanted different textures so I ripped & painted a piece of cardboard. I also inked and painted various stars and arrows.

BE THE BEST YOU by Trace Geworsky. Supplies: Paper: BasicGrey, My Mind's Eye, Cardstock: Bazzill, Rubon: Creative Imaginations, Paint: Making Memories, DecoArt, Delta, Jelly star: Making Memories, Ink: Paper Salon, Cardstock stickers: Daisy D's, Imagination Project, Sticker: Making Memories, Eyelet, snap: We R Memory Keepers, Sticker: Heidi Swapp, Chipboard: American Crafts, Felt flower: American Crafts, Other: cardboard.

Journaling: I loved the picture so much that I didn’t want it to lose impact by adding journaling. This way the emphasis is on the photo. It tells the story of how my son finally found freedom by getting over his fear of water, and actually sitting in the boat in the deep end of the pool ALL BY HIMSELF!!!!

Learn by Trace Geworsky. Supplies: Paper: Scenic Route, Cardstock: Prism, Ink: Paper Salon, Ribbon: American Crafts, Chipboard: Scenic Route, Paint: DecoArt, Glaze: Making Memories, Other: Chipboard heart.

Journaling: Silas and Daddy, walking at the mosquito pond-Altona-August 29, 2007.

Design notes: I loved this paper by Scenic Route... made it very simple to create a fun-looking page. I cut leaf shapes from the paper, and glued it around the chipboard circle to create a flower. I doodled some lines around the edges of the leaves.

Play Ball by Trace Geworsky. Supplies: Paper: A2Z, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Rubons: Luxe, Daisy D's, Star transparencies: Fontwerks, Inc., Paint: Making Memories, Delta, DecoArt, Stamp: 7 gypsies, Pen: Sharpie, Stickers: Heidi Swapp.

Journaling: After watching Uncle Kenny's baseball game in Stonewall, He took you around the bases. Aug 9/07.

Design notes: Where I wanted my title to be, I dry brushed some paint and once it was dry, I applied rub-ons over the paint. I also took the star transparencies from my stamp set, and painted on the back sides of them, and poked dots to the front of one of them (a great way to use up the packaging that comes with acrylic stamps).

Design notes: I applied doodle rub-ons onto my cardstock, then added some color to them using my watercolor pencil crayons. I went over the color with my blender pen (you could also use a wet paintbrush) and this smeared the color to where I wanted it, giving it a bright look.

S&S by Trace Geworsky. Supplies: Paper: Rouge De Garance, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Ink: Tsukineko, Chipboard: American Crafts, Sticker: Making Memories, Rub-ons: Making Memories, Urban Lily, Journaling Stamp: 7 Gypsies, Blender Pens & Watercolor Pencils: Stampin’ Up.

Journaling: Si with sleepy (the mascot at the travelodge hotel in Edmonton, Alberta) Sunday, August 5/07.

About the designer

I’m Trace Geworsky and I hail from the sunflower capital of Canada-Altona, MB. I have a husband, Rob who supports my scrapbooking addiction, and a very cute yet mischievous 3 year old son, Si, who is the cause of this addiction. I run a daycare from my home that provides me with plenty of entertainment and great photo ops.

I started scrapbooking just over 3 years ago, shortly after the birth of my son, and of course those layouts featured plenty of stickers, die cuts and decorative edge scissors. I have now moved into a more eclectic style, where anything and everything goes, when it comes to my pages. I love experimenting with products and trying out new techniques. I tend to get a little CRAZY on my layouts...Just trying to match my personality... hee hee!!

Within this last year I have really discovered a passion for scrapbooking & photography, and plan on improving both...Can never learn enough right?!

I am currently a DT member of Rhubarb Roots (a really great scrapbooking store in my hometown) and for allscrapbookingideas.com (an online site that provides plenty of ideas & inspiration). I am VERY excited that I was chosen for October's discovery drive. It is my first time being published & I appreciate the opportunity!!!
