Got Sports?

 Christa Parker

Soccer… I didn’t know much about this fall sport until I had to write about it. My boys do track, play baseball and football, but never tried soccer. So here is what I have learned about this sport. No one is sure where soccer first came from. One of the earliest forms of soccer was played as far back as 1004 B.C. in Japan, and then again in 50 B.C. between China and Japan. Soccer is also called football in other countries. Back in the 1300s soccer was banned and by law, anyone who was caught playing was put in prison. The name soccer came about when a player was asked if he was a “Rugger”, which is a Rugby player. The -er signified that the person participated in a particular sport. The player replied with soccer and the term stuck.

Whatever sport your child plays, don’t forget to get those great action shots. Those pictures make great layouts.

Journaling: You were brilliant! You gave everything you got and were a perfect captain to your team. You reached the finals and even scored a goal. You became 2nd.

Almost Champions by Nili Elburg. Supplies: Papers: Scenic Route, Letter stickers: American Crafts, Basic Grey, Doodlebug, Chipboard coaster: Lily Urban, Type gaffer: 7gypsies, Stickers: Heidi Swapp, Sandylion, Stamp: Autumn Leaves.

Design notes: I did this for an online challenge that required the following: - 5 words in the title - 4 circles - 3 pictures - 2 fonts- 1 subject in the pictures. Since a lot of elements were required, I decided to do the circles in several ways-- via the photo and title matting and the eyelet circles. I used paint to distress it a little and to add a fun vibe. I love journaling stamps because they make my hand-writing look half-way decent in my layouts.

Sports Should Always Be Fun by Ria Mojica. Supplies: Paper: Fancy Pants, Chipboard letters: Heidi Swapp & Chip Chatter, Paint: Making Memories, License Plate: Karen Foster, Rub-Ons: BasicGrey, Rubber Stamp: Autumn Leaves, Pen: Zig, Ink: chalk, Other: eyelets & brads, black cardstock.

Journaling: Luis takes a break in the middle of a soccer game -- who says you have to be focused all the time? May 20, 2007

Journaling: Jackson you really loved soccer this year! And you really came to life out on the field. You scored lots of goals (on average 2 a game) and you were really proud of yourself. It is fun watching you play soccer.

Design notes: Those sports “posed” photos are sometimes hard to scrap. My solution is to keep the layout simple and overlap the large photos.

Soccer Flockers by Jennifer Wuthrich.  Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Die cut: Sizzix, Foam Stamps: Making Memories, Ink: Staz-on, other: Stickers, Soccer paper.
