Scenes of Fall

 Lindsay Krauss

I am so inspired by autumn – the warm colors, the fresh air, the harvest fruits and the outdoors pictures; and that’s just scrapbooking inspiration! It’s my favorite time of year to scrap and every fall layout inspires me. Take a look at these outstanding pages to inspire you!

We’re going to start out in the backyard, in one of those favorite fall activities: leaf jumping! Every scrapbooker I know is willing to give up a few scrappy hours to go outside, rake leaves, jump, shoot, re-rake… and all of us will have the camera ready for all the fall scenes.

Take a look at these leafy layouts. Donna rakes her leaves and then gets close-ups and candid photos of the kids. Kari’s portraits are perfectly placed in an autumn-toned layout, and Shannon chooses angles and depth to represent the fall season.

Editor’s Notes: I just love the way Donna used slightly lighter autumn tones with the darker colored picture to help her subject pop off the page. She also wisely uses straight edges like frames and stripes to contradict the messiness in her leafy pictures.

Leaves Leaves Leaves by Donna Coughlin. Supplies: Paper: KI Memories, Font: Cricut Base Camp, Chipboard frame: Oriental Trading Company, Other: cardstock, ink, stitching.

Design notes: After cutting out the words I dabbed ink over them and around the edges to give it that “fall” leaf look. The KI multi striped paper I cut the strips then varied the length of the strips and place them on the page. I randomly stitched with different types of stitches around some of the strips. The small frame I took leftover strips of paper and glued them on.

Autumn Leaves by Kari Sweeney. Supplies: Paper: My Mind’s Eye, Cardstock: Paper Mates, Quote circle: My Mind’s Eye, Title box: My Mind’s Eye, Buttons: SEI, Chipboard Monogram: Scrap Essentials.

Design notes: My intention with this page was to create a clean, crisp look- like autumn. I wanted to add a little punch with the patterned paper and buttons, but didn't want to overshadow the photos.

Editor’s Notes: I wholly love the idea of a two-pager to showcase all those autumn pictures. I love that Kari used clean lines and complementing color tones to accentuate, but not distract from her photographs. Notice also that Kari uses (like she said no journaling and) very few embellishments to keep the focus on those pictures; the few additions she did use complement each other and keep the flow of the page going – notice the buttons, the slightly altered circle shape and the different sized blocks used on both pages.

Design notes: Get out there and enjoy the fall! It's such a beautiful time of year and provides such great scrapping opportunities (especially if you love working with earth tones)!!

Tones of Home by Shannon Morgan. Supplies: Paper: Daisy D's, Cardstock: Bazzill, Chipboard: BasicGrey, Cardstock stickers: Daisy D's, Paint, stamps, brads: Making Memories, Gemstones: Hero Arts, Ink: Ranger, Flowers, Leaves: Cafe Prima Monthly Kit, Pen: American Crafts.

Journaling: (HIDDEN) -- There's something magical about Fall in Alpena. We had to stop for Patrick because he "had to go". During this event, as humorous as it was, we took time to look at all the glorious colors. I'm so glad that Karl can share this with Patrick and Mackenzie.....you just can't get those kind of colors "down state".
