Kuler Is Your Color

Well a quickie review this month, as everything is go go go… especially now the kids are back to school and after school activities appear. Time for those of you who like to co-ordinate color to drive up front for a while!

I have found a great site where you can invent your own color combinations, in thousands of different combos, from pastels to brights, shades of one or multi coordinating colors.

I don’t know how I never found Kuler before. I am a fan of the Adobe website and am always checking out the site for the bits and pieces they have. Well, I came across this link somewhere else altogether and it leads straight to Adobe Kuler site.

The create page on Kuler website. You need to log in or register with an email address.

What the heck is Kuler you ask?…. Answer? It’s a fabulous little site for creating and then downloading your own color swatches. You can put them straight into your software or store them in a folder to load them into Photoshop when you need them. One thing to remember though, is that they come in the Adobe Exchange format, so you have to change the dropdown box when you come to load to the correct format ACS, otherwise it wont show up. Once you have loaded them though, if you like what you see and want to load them again save them as a color swatch as normal.

It is a great idea, even if you don’t have Photoshop you can still play with the colors and take the hex numbers for use in your own program.

Choose a base or basic color. Kuler will work from this color for a combo. Here I chose pastel green with the main slider pin.

From the green, I then chose analogous colors or those close on the color wheel. I left the base color and clicked analogous so I could move through all the settings and get combinations for that pastel green.

If I manually move the slider pins I can create my own custom color sets.

The settings are many and variable. This is so much fun you might want to play for quite a while instead of getting on with what you went there for… choosing a color combination or swatch for your project. Have fun!
