Street Maps

 Michelle McClung

We all need a creative nudge once in a while. Some days, ideas for layouts come to me very easily, and other days, it’s a struggle. On those days, I usually turn to sketches for a bit of inspiration. It’s more than an “Insert Photo Here” template, sketches are a flexible guideline for the artist to use to get out of their creative slump by giving a basic design and leaving the rest open for individual interpretation. It can also make you step outside of your comfort zone and create something that you normally wouldn’t. This month, I have created two simple sketches. The 12x12 layout has 3 photos, minimal amount of embellishments, and room for journaling. The emphasis here is on your photos with a lot of “white space” for your eye to rest. I must give credit to Michelle Boekerman for taking my sketch and making it into a digital drawing for me!

Designer Notes: Straight lines and the rule of thirds make this sketch very versatile.  Go ahead and grab bold paper and fancy embellies or leave it simple.  It is all up to you!

Designer Notes:

I wanted a simple design scheme and a minimum amount of embellishments to highlight my photos.

Designer Notes: This sketch was a wonderful way for me to use up some of my ample scrap stash! I also need to give photo credit to Denise Rieth, who took the photos of my daughter.
