Discovery Drive

Lindsey Krauss

Each month a new and fabulous paper scrapper is featured here in Discovery Drive. This month, we spotlight Susan, an incredibly stylish scrapbooker and storyteller. She showcases her photos with amazing color; each one is met with carefully selected colors to enhance the mood and emotion in the picture. The best part and probably biggest secret of this gal? She’s only been scrapping for three months!

Designer's Note:

For this layout and most of my layouts, my inspiration came from the photo. I usually use colors in my layouts that go with the photo. I used the bright colors to mimic the bright flower and the wording on his outfit. Of course, the title was inspired by that look!

What Chu Lookin At by Susan Dupre. Supplies: Paper: American Crafts Ala Mode, Scenic Route laurel, Chipboard: Chip Chatter, Bazzill, Buttons: JoAnn Fabrics, Glue: Zig two-way, Cutting tool: Cricut, Other: flower.

Toddler by Susan Dupre. Supplies: Overlay: Hambly Studios, Glue: Zig Two-Way, Glue Dots, Other: scrap fringe, clear transparency, copy of book cover, children’s card, cover of coloring book, and a lid to a Crayola box.

Editor’s Note: Susan wasn’t sure if she should include this page in her collection this month, but I insisted that this is my favorite of the bunch. With no journaling she completely tells the story of every toddler with bright colors, parenting paraphernalia and chaos on paper!

Bucket Head by Susan Dupre.  Supplies: Paper: Scenic Route, Chipboard: Bazzill alphabets, Buttons: JoAnn Fabrics, Glue: Zig Two-Way, Cutting tool: Cricut.

Designer’s Notes: For this layout, I cut my patterned paper into different sizes and placed them sort of in different directions until I liked the look. I matted my photo in black card and placed in a central location. Then I added the arrow to point to the subject “the bucket.” I then added the buttons and doodled all throughout the layout to give it extra oomph!

Designer's Note:

I used Ranger Ink all over the edges of my layout, patterned paper and the frame of the photo to give a messy, dirty look to add to the feel of the layout. I also used pop dots under some of the die cuts to give them the look of chipboard.

Dirty Boy by Susan Dupre. Supplies: Paper: Crate Paper, Die cuts: Signature Life, Chipboard: Bazzill alphabets, brads: Making Memories, Ink: Ranger Ink, Adhesive: Pop Dots, Glue: Zig Two-Way, Cutting tool: Cricut.

About the designer:

My name is Susan Dupre. I am currently a happily married 44-year-old SAHM with a lively 3-year-old boy, Hayden, who is the theme of all my layouts! I have lived in London, England twice. When I do work outside the home, I do Interior Design, which I studied in England in 1995. I had always planned on scrapbooking since the birth of my son. However, I only started in March of this year! Yes, I am a “little” late getting started! I have found it is a wonderful way to explore my creativity. I do have to admit I have become just a little obsessed with this new found hobby, but what a wonderful hobby it is!
