Twisted Turnaround

  Origin Call

Twisted Originals Challenge Blog was created by a scrapper who loves to think outside of the box! I have served on numerous message boards and always chose to be the moderator of the challenges forum. The idea came to me to create a blog that would feature challenges as well as provide an opportunity for scrappers to be published. The challenges are not intended to be difficult not impossible, just thought provoking. Scrappers are encouraged to use the challenges to fit their own personal style.

Challenges are posted every Monday and scrappers submit their layouts to twistedpaper@gmail.com. Selected entries are listed on the blog and entered into the final round for publication into the Scrapstreet.com ezine! The Twisted Crew provides weekly inspiration to our scrappers by posting their takes on the challenges. Be sure to check us out weekly. You never know when you might want to scrap twisted!

Your mission: Scrap a LO using photos either on the extreme right side or the extreme left side.

Editor’s note: Debbie caught such wonderful pictures and the colors captivated everything to make this layout a stunning masterpiece!

On a Roll by Debbie Gaydos. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill, Patterned paper: Scenic Route, Acrylic Ribbon Slide: Pebbles, Inc., Adhesive: Creative Memories, Herma, Photo Tape: Scrapbook Adhesives, Brads: Karen Foster, Making Memories, Chipboard Letters: Scenic Route, Font: Americana BT, Other: Ribbon.

Journaling: Who knew when we bought this Little Tikes push-car for Ryan over five years ago, what a great investment it would turn out to be? We always take it with us to Ryan's baseball games, and you not only love to play on it, but you share it with the other kids. Most of all, you share it with Sarah, the very sweet little girl with whom you have formed a close friendship this summer. At this game in White Oak, there was a conveniently-sloped area of asphalt just off the parking lot, where you took turns giving one another a get-going push and then were able to roll down the hill with sheer reckless abandon, where one of the bigger kids was waiting to make sure you didn't get hurt. It was so sweet watching the two of you working together, sharing, and having fun.

Design notes: To achieve the text in the shape of the curve: I manipulated my text in Microsoft Word, manually adding line breaks where needed near the top of the journaling. I checked the spacing against a circle template that was the same radius as the quarter-circle shape that I wanted at the top of the text. After printing the text on the cardstock, and then used my EK Success Curvy Cutter to cut the quarter-circle, and finished the straight edge with my 12" trimmer.

Your mission: Scrap a LO using a title that rhymes with a specific color. Hmm.. remember that box of Crayola crayons that we all had in school? How about using one of those colors:  chartreuse, periwinkle anyone? Or you can just stick to the basics: red, yellow, blue, green.. the choices are endless.

Editor’s note: Rebecca's picture in her layout is so captivating and the title truly fits the little girl!

Eyes in the Hue of Blue by Rebecca Henrie. Supplies: Paper:  Gin-X, Piggy Tales, Daisy D's, Scenic Route, Letters:  Heidi Swapp, JoAnn Scrap Essentials, Metal:  JoAnn Scrap Essentials, Flower, Cardstock:  Bazzill, Ribbon:  Offray.

Journaling: Ella Claire age 2 *A rare treat to capture a perfect smile, with dimples and bright blue eyes. Our beautiful girl.

Design notes: For this challenge I knew I wanted to use this picture and the color blue. So I played around with the title until I got the rhyme just right. I used naked chipboard and covered the blue letters with Daisy D's patterned paper and sanded the edges. This layout was a lot of fun to put together.

Your mission: Scrap a LO using photos either on the extreme right side or the extreme left side.

Editor’s note: Paola provided an excellent example of a multiphoto layout and the design was perfect for the title!

Brain Freeze by Paola López-Araiza Osante.  Supplies: Paper: Daisy D's, Moda, My Mind's Eye, Acetate letters: Heidi Swapp, Chipboard letters: BasicGrey, Paint: Making Memories, Ribbon: American Crafts, SEI, Fancy Pants Designs, Chipboard: Scenic Route, Font: Annoying Kettle.

Journaling: Today’s culprit –- a venti non-fat decaf frapuccino from Starbucks. … Every time you drink a smoothie, a milk shake or anything really cold, you get brain freeze!!! It’s so bad you don’t even want to risk driving while drinking it! I’’ have never ever experienced that particular pain and I have no idea what it feels like, so every single time you get it, my instinctual reaction is dude, seriously???!!!

Design notes: I'd been wanting to document Ian's "brain freeze" moments for some time now, and when decided to go to Starbucks for a couple of frapuccinos I knew I had to take the camera with me... When I saw this challenge I knew what my layout would be about because I had so many photos of this and this was the perfect way of getting them all on one layout. I decided to print several smaller photos and put them on the right hand side of the paper and then print a bigger one of him looking regretfully at his empty cup... I used masculine papers and embellishments and stitched the acetate letters. Another important part of the layout was the subtitle: dude, seriously???!!! This is explained in the journaling.
