What’s better than a morning waking up to the songs of our feathered friends? They are all around us every day in a variety of ways. It’s up to us to see the beauty they bring to our world. From watching the babies leave the nest, to having a community of finches, or even just a feathered one that has got loose, they all bring a sense of nature in the raw to us on a daily basis. I have always enjoyed the birds that lived around me. Their small contribution to a moment here in there in our lives is usually minimal. But to be able to show a child and see the wonder in their eyes as they learn about wild animals has never ceased to amaze me. Take a look around your house, your town, your neighborhood and I bet you find a whole world of feathered wonders to share with your children.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song. -Chinese Proverb

Next month we go under water and have a peak at some of our fishy friends. October brings us all pets of any variety in Halloween costumes! There might be some cute shots or some “Pooky” ones (Jakey likes to say) they are all sure to bring a smile to your face! See ya then!

Design notes: I added an adjustment layer (hue/saturation) to recolor the lavender paper to have more of a blue/grey tone, which was better coordinated with the other papers.

Feathered Visitor by Janice Badger. Supplies: Paper: One Fish Two Fish at scrapbook.com; College Preppy by Dora Phillips and Lavender Love by Michelle Boeckermann at ScrapStreet.com, Brads and Label: Essence elements by JBaechtold at scrapbook.com; Inked Edge: Lucky Star kit by Gina Cabrera at digitaldesignessentials.com ; fonts: Absalom and Copper Canyon WBW (downloaded from the internet), Software: Adobe PSE 5.0.

Journaling: Finches Joyce’s Garden Joys 2007. We have really enjoyed this years finches. We have even decided to name them this year. There is Dusty, Dodger and Talia, 3 of the regulars we enjoy around the yard. We know there are 5 around at any given time in the yard. But these 3 for some reason have made an impression on us. They really are a joy to watch.

Finches by Michelle Boeckermann. Supplies: Digital Kits: Painted Summer & Poor Me Another By Katey (handmade designs).

Journaling: I was so surprised when I went out to check on my baby birds and found them out of the nest and ready to try their wings. By that night, they were gone.

Learning to Fly by Robin Blankenship. Supplies: Digital kit by Shelle Pukas, Chipboard Action and scallop template by Atomic cupcake.
