Overhaul Alley

  Christa Parker

Vacation… That word invokes memories, some good, some bad, but always interesting. The vacation I remember most were not high dollar events but special family times filled with fun and laughter. My memories are not of watching a DVD in the back of a SUV. They involve my brother pestering me to play “I spy, with my little eye”, and my sister proclaiming “she’s breathing my air” with an ear-piercing squeal. We never needed much to entertain us. We entertained ourselves; we stopped by the side of the road to see a breathtaking view as our father took a million pictures that are long lost in boxes of photos that have no names or places on the on the back. We struggle to remember that view, that face, that memory. I want to capture the memories that will mean so much to my children. Those memories that linger on the back of my mind, that often hold me captive in remembrance so special that I want to cling to every moment. This is what I want for my children; I want to give them something to hold onto when times may not be so great or when they want to see the faces of those they love. From spending time at the beach, road trip to grandmas, or even spending the day at the zoo, mini vacation albums are a perfect way to show off your pictures of special vacation times.

Design notes: To cover the album, I traced around the album onto the pp I wanted to use then cut it out. I adhered a die cut to one of the stems - both on the front and back side of the page so that you didn't see the underside of only one die cut. Once all pages were covered, I adhered the photos and added embellishments.

Travel Album by Sue Fields.  Supplies: Pineapple Album: Magistical Memories, Pattern paper: Wube, K&Co, Die Cuts: Wube, Chipboard: Magistical Memories, Deluxe Designs, Flower: Prima, Stickers: Ranger, Jolee by You, Bling: Heidi Swapp, Other: ribbons.

Journaling: Names of locations we visited and the following: Ubero Beach was not my favorite for swimming but it did have it's attributes. I got to hold a live starfish and see a brown crab in it's natural habitat. We watched pelicans dive for food, which was really amazing! We kayaked and saw some beautiful fish swimming in the ocean. And we ran into a co-worker of Greg's, what are the odds of that! 2007

Mini Flap Travel Album by Pearl Liu. Supplies: Papers: Spotlight, epoxy stickers: Spotlight, Cardstock: Bazzill, Vellum Definitions: Colorbok, Ribbon: 7 Gypsies Remember, Flowers: Prima, Chipboard Scrolls: Sarah Heidt Photography, Inks: Brilliance, Metal flower: Imaginisce.

Design Note:  Pearl used directions from a challenge at twopeasinabucket.com for her project.

Design notes: This is a 6x9 travel journal album that I made for our trip to Malaysia & Singapore. I altered a 6x9 kraft envelope and utilized mostly patterned paper scraps from past projects. The envelopes also double as pockets for the other memorabilia’s that we were able to gather during our trip. For the cover, I used a die-cut for the title as well as the boy & girl pair. I used a luggage rub-on and positioned the bitty dolls beside it as if they were carrying the luggage. And to further emphasize it as a travel journal, I used the border of a journaling stamp and mimicked a compass. To protect the cover of my travel journal, I cut to size the plastic cover from my chipboard container. It's a good way to maximize those supplies without having to just throw them away.
