There’s Something About…

  Janice Badger

In 1998 (yes, it was almost 10 years ago!), the movie There’s Something About Mary had audiences laughing out loud at Ben Stiller’s antics trying to get Mary to notice him. Mary had brains, beauty, compassion, and athleticism. But more than that, she had that indescribable “IT”, and every man who met her fell in love with her. You know when someone has “IT”, although you probably can’t always accurately describe what “IT” is. “IT” makes someone or something stand out from the crowd.

Design note: Don't be afraid to get a bit messy! I had this layout on the floor of my studio and was throwing white paint at it from the end of a toothbrush! All of that before I stuck the photo on, of course. Also, when next you are out shopping, try some "other" types of shops such as hardware stores, dollar shops, and charity shops in order to find some embellishments that are a little "different".

Inner Rock Chick by Sarah Gladman.  Supplies: Cardstock:  Bazzill, Paper: Daisy D's, EK Success, Creative Imaginations, Paint: Making Memories, Pen: Signo Uniball White Gel, Chipboard: Heidi Swapp, Other: glitter "tattoo" from a junk shop, gold gel pen, glitter cross from junk store, artist canvas.

Design note: On the flashcards I used lots of rub-ons that coordinated with the colors in the papers.

The Pout by Darlene Kearns.  Supplies: Patterned Paper: Autumn Leaves, Flash cards: 7gypsies, Rub--ons: Fancy Pants, Ink: Ranger, Chipboard letters: Heidi Swapp, Other: chipboard shapes, rubber stamps.

Tag: It is lines on a liquid medium, the only limitations the wave itself, every line drawn according to an inner aesthetic shaped by experience, influences, and, not the least, temperament. (Quote from: Wave Riders Gallery 2007)

Design note: I just had to use glitter on my wave lettering and on the circular frame. Reminded me of reflections on the ocean.

The Perfect Wave by Leigh Bossinger.  Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Rub-ons: Making Memories, Glitter: Stickles, Chipboard: Basic Gray, Heidi Swapp, All other: Gin-X.

Journaling: It lives in the seven seas, constantly reborn by the earth’s tides. Interrupted by land, it journeys backwards rejoining the massive waters surrounding our planet. It starts again. Spurred forward by the churning and undulating of the deepest oceans. Those who seek it amass at the shore. Boards in hand, together waiting, watching, knowing it exists. It is coming. It is art. It is life. It is nature. It is elusive. It only takes one, and you know you have found it. That singular, perfect wave, which you ride, feeling it carry you, becoming one with it, until it tosses you on the shore, breathless, knowing in that moment you have achieved it. You have known it. You have felt it. You have lived it. The perfect wave.
