Welcome to December’s edition of Discovery Drive! This month was especially fun here because we got to play with not only a talented scrapbooker, but we’re delighted to highlight another scrapbook art, the art of altering!
Tracey has talent splattered on a page and all over the wall! Her scrapbook pages ooze with color and reveries, while her altered art looks like it came off the shelf of a home interior decorating store.
Tracey, congratulations; you are easily as talented as you are eager and conscientious!

Design notes:
I wanted it to be obvious when you look at this layout that it is all about the picture. Lots of "white space," minimal patterned papers and hidden journaling helped accomplish that. The button trail helps guide your focus right to the picture.
Journaling:
"I love everything about you... your sweet breath... your laugh... when we cuddle... I even love your CUTE pout! But the thing I love the most is when you say, "I LOVE you, Mommy! Anna Grace, March 2005"

This Picture Makes Me Smile by Tracey Locher. Supplies:
Patterned Paper and transparency: Rusty Pickle Guinevere, Acrylic Page: Rusty Pickle (page from an 8 x 8 square acrylic album), Rub-on: Daisy D's, Paint: Making Memories Scrapbook Colors, Jewels: Heidi Swapp,
Other: open stock large rhinestones and
fabric.
Designer's notes:
I took a page out of an 8 x 8 acrylic
album by Rusty Pickle and created a wall
hanging. I wanted to keep it simple and
layered some paper, the picture, and a photo
transparency. I added the rub-on quote and
dry brushed some paint behind the black
rub-on to help make it more visible. I love
using fabric as an accent and it was the
perfect choice for the picture hanger.

Love Potted Word Art by Tracey Locher. Supplies:
Paper: Rusty Pickle French Market, Letters, pot,
Styrofoam, moss, sticks, brown raffia: Michaels, Ink: Tim Holtz Distress, Butterfly: Heidi Swapp Ghost, Paint: Making Memories Scrapbook Colors, Flower: Fancy Pants and Prima, Buttons, trim, circle tag: Rusty Pickle, Adhesive: Mod Podge, Other: thread, brown ribbon.
Designer's notes:
I took unfinished letters and covered them with Mod Podge and Rusty Pickle patterned paper on the front and the back. I painted the sides of the letters. I sanded every edge and inked them for a real "shabby chic" look. I cut a hole in the bottom of each letter, filled the hole with glue and let dry. I filled the pot with planters Styrofoam and hot glued moss over the top to provide a nice looking anchor for the letters. I added embellishments, raffia and was done.

Design notes: I just adore this picture... probably because of the wonderful memories that it brings back. I wanted the picture to take center stage with just a few embellishments. I also wanted the special journaling to feel like it was floating in the water... there if you looked at it, but would float by if you weren't paying attention. |

About the designer
I am thrilled to be the Discovery Drive Designer for December!!! My name is Tracey Locher and I'm a SAHM for my three kids (17, 15, 3) and my incredible husband, Jeff. I started scrapping about ten years ago, but really started scrapping seriously about three years ago when I was able to leave my career in Community Management for homeowners associations and stay home.
I LOVE this hobby of ours and appreciate it so much because I was always told growing up that I had no artistic talent. Now, that is not exactly false... you do NOT want me on your team for Pictionary because I can't draw to save my life. Those negative messages had been playing in my head for years and I convinced myself that I could not CREATE.
Then I started scrapping. I figured I could add a block of colored paper behind a photo, add a pretty sticker and some journaling to make my albums look better. And I did... and I started experimenting with different products... then I picked up an issue of Creating Keepsakes Magazine and read about the Hall of Fame contest. I decided to enter, read everything I could get my hands on and started to play. I enjoy entering contests and creating for specific calls as I think the challenge of assignments makes me try things I wouldn't normally have tried. At the end of the day, I have finished layouts for our family albums. Some may be picked up for publication or may win a contest. Most will not. But my family history is being documented and I can finally
say that I CAN CREATE!
I am proud to be on the design teams for Rusty Pickle and Ever After Scrapbooks in Carlsbad, California. Thank you, ScrapStreet Magazine, for this incredible honor! Wahoo!
