  Lindsey Krauss

Welcome to Digital Discovery! This month we are excited to present Bernie ‘Boo’ Silva here. However, we can’t seem to be more enthusiastic than she! (And that’s a good thing!) That enthusiasm shows not only in her communication and words, but in her scrapping as well. The best part about her scrapping, perhaps, might be the variety she brings; each page she does seems to bring a new surprise, different from the others. Varied styles make scrapping (and viewing!) exciting. Boo’s one of those gals that makes just about anyone look at the work and say, “Boy, she makes it look so easy!” even though we all know it’s not!

Congratulations, Boo – thank you for sharing your talents and stories with us this month!

Design notes: I wanted to create a layout using a really big title. I'd seen the effect in some galleries and loved the look. When I found these photos of my brother it just suddenly all fell into place. I would always look at other galleries to get inspiration.

Journaling: Simon. Even though injury prevented you from playing, you just had to do your 'Happy Dance' when your team scored.

Wish upon a Star by Boo Silva of BooLandDesigns. Supplies: Background Paper 'Starburst' by LemonaidLucy, Brushes from Deviant Art.

Journaling: 'When you Wish Upon a Star'

Design notes: This was my very first 'Scraplift challenge' entry at SAS. I wanted to create something that would 'catch the eye' and something I could use a Song Title in. The black paper by LemonaidLucy was perfect with just a spray of white stars in brush form. That song had been going round my head for a week or so and the photo of my daughter, Elly, was the perfect finish. Sometimes, just a paper and a great word art is all you need.

Journaling: The years will come and go. It's the moments we'll remember.

Design notes: I tried a scraplift challenge at Stone Accents for this layout. It was my first time with this extraction and blending style and I loved how it turned out. It shows my guy Jay and I on our first proper date. I extracted us from photo and merged it with another. Don't be afraid to use the whole photo as a background and try adding subtle brush work to bring the layout to life.

Design notes: I found that entering challenges has been a great way to learn and improve my layout style. As a beginner, I had no idea how to get that certain look but the challenges were a great way to encourage thought whilst giving you the foundations to work from. So, my big tip would be, enter as many as you can. You get great feed back which is such an ego boost and lots of positive ideas and suggestions. Oh, and even if you're a real novice, don't be afraid to try for CT's. It's a wonderful way to get great kits, work with lovely people and develop your own skills.

...such a 'Perfect Day' by Boo Silva of BooLandDesigns. Supplies: Skrapper Digitals 'DayDreamer' Kit.

Journaling: 'Who would have thought on that May day just a year ago that we would go from being 'Mousy Mammas' to such Glamour Puss's and all thanks to an Extreme Makeover.' This was done for an 'Inspirational' challenge over at SAS. I chose to record the day my mum and i found out we'd won an Extreme makeover UK and our 'Perfect Day' Reveal. I used the blending style for the background with small before and after photos in one corner. I also decided to make the before photo black and white so that the 'Perfect Day' photo in color would stand out.

About the designer

I'm 45 year old mum to 8 year old Elly, the light of my life and my two grown sons, both in the British Army and I'm so very proud of them both. They're my rocks. I'm also the significant other to Jay, my Music Man.

I'm an Early Years Educator, an avid reader/writer, hooked on Digi Scrapping and love to spend time with my family. I've been digi scrapping for about a year and started out using Publisher to make Headers for displaying the childrens art work. It really took off when Jay got me PhotoShop CS3 which I love. In this short time I've made it as a CT for three wonderful Designers, Guest CT for two very well known Designers whose work I love to bits and by the time this hits the news, I will be a very proud Designer at Stone Accents Studio. If I can do it, believe me, anyone can. It's the best fun I've had in years.
