Lifting Lane

 Terry McAuliffe

Scraplifting: a word that means so many different things to so many different people. It’s an inspiration, a motivation, a challenge, a game. A scraplift may be a layout, altered art, a card, a sketch or even an advertisement. This month we’ve got two awesome layouts that were featured in the Saturday Night Scrap Lift Challenge. We’re also showcasing two, just as awesome, layouts that began as an inspiration from each of the original “Lifts.” Can you tell just by looking what inspired these great lifts?

First is a simple, elegant design by Michelle: “K” … this layouts offers lots of “liftable” elements. What do you see that inspires you? Is it the cluster of elements in the corner? Or maybe it’s the cool, distressed Monogram? Or possibly the layering of many different patterned papers?

Design note: I absolutely loved this photo of my daughter, it screamed "Classic" to me. I wanted the layout to reflect that. The cooler colors, the intricate designs and mixed patterns all huddled together to enhance, but not overwhelm the photo.

Journaling: Jeans, sweatshirt, socks. All the little things we do when cooler weather comes.

K by Michelle Boeckermann. Digital Supplies: Wild Love by Shabby Princess, Stitches by Rhonna Penner.

Design note: I was inspired by the layered design and the monogram.

Journaling: This is the first fish you ever caught! Grandma and Grandpa took us to the lake at Cole Park in Colesville, NY. You had a great time learning to catch sunfish with Grandpa and Dad to help you out. You wanted to keep your new friend, but we put him back in the lake. August 2007.

J (Go Fish) by Janice Badger. Supplies: Digital papers: Footloose Boy kit by Handmaid Designs; Echoes of Asia kit by Jessica Sprague, Mesh: Colorful Season Mini Kit by JuLaender, Mask: Christmas Photo mats and tags by Dani B., Stitched tab: Stitched Elements by Katie Pertiet, Tape: French Countryside kit by Shabby Princess and Christina Renee, Chipboard letter: Sweet Serenity kit by Shabby Princess, Note paper: Express Yourself by Ronna Penner at Shabby Shoppe, Charm: from Hangups (Boys Toys) Elements by Tracy Ann Designs, Jump ring: Jack-O-Lantern Collaborative kit by O’Scraps, Brush: Digital Distress Kit by Nancy Rowe Janitz, Font: FG Adrian.

Design Notes: I loved the way Michelle clustered all of the elements together layering them for such a dimensional feel.  Trying to duplicate it with traditional supplies was a fun challenge for me.

One by Dora Phillips. Supplies: Paper:  Fancy Pants, Chipboard:  Rusty Pickle, Gems:  Heidi Swapp, Flower:  Imaginisce, Tags:  Making Memories.
