First Frost

 Michelle McClung

Frost, N. 1. a freezing condition; temperature below the freezing point of water; very cold weather. 2. moisture frozen on or in a surface. There is a chill in the air.

The seasons have changed and the cold weather is upon us. How cold? I guess it depends where you live. As I sit here in Southern California, writing this article, the temperature gauge outside of my kitchen says 80 degrees. Ok, the nights go down to about the 40's, but my friends in the North are already seeing temperatures in the 30's and 40's as a high. It's starting to cool off. So, how do you keep warm?

Traditionally for me when I feel the weather start to change, I go into my closet and exchange all of my shorts, tank tops, and flip-flops, for sweaters, pants and boots. Out comes the hot chocolate and the tea kettle. Lastly, the Chimney Sweep gets a call from me to clean out the fireplace so I can cozy up by a roaring fire on those cooler nights. Snuggle in and let's see how some of our reader's keep warm on the frosty days that are upon us.

Designer notes: I love the colors in this mini kit, but I wanted the red paper to match Tuckers outfit, so I deepened it a bit from a pink/red to a deeper ruby red.

Snow by Michelle Boeckermann. Digital Supplies: Baby, It's Cold outside Mini kit by Krystal Hartley

Designer notes: Because I really just wanted to focus on the photo, I removed the photo from the original background and placed it on a black background and added my white journaling.

Snow by: Shannon Blinn. Supplies: Patterned Paper: Boxer Scrapbook Productions, Snowflakes: Midnight Oil Scrapbook Designs, Me and My Big Ideas, Rub-ons: Basic Grey.

Journaling: A warm cup of cocoa on a cold winter day is just the thing to warm up a cold boy. Who can resist the marshmallows and steam of a hot cup of cocoa. So yummy. Good til the last drop! A true sign that winter is here.

Designer notes: Shannon uses blues and reds together to show the warmth and beauty in a cold picture. Sometimes, it's the mood a person enhances that inspires us all.

Glistening Once Again by Shannon Morgan. Supplies: Paper: Basic Grey, Cardstock: Bazzill Bling, Paints: Making Memories, Lil' Davis Designs, Chipboard: Lil' Davis Designs, Making Memories, Pen: American Crafts, Rub-on Tape: Daisy D's, Distress Ink: Tim Holtz.

Journaling: The first frost...or the first snowfall always brings a huge smile to my face...I love the smell of winter air... the crisp in the air - that signals the warmest time of the year is coming, it signals the warmest time of the year is coming it signals big downy flakes...snowmen and icicles...family, happiness, smiles, baking cookies, wrapping presents, the *magic* that only the first frost can bring...I'll always look forward to the first frost...I'll always welcome the chill in the air with a smile because I look forward to the best it brings out in everyone, including me.
