Frayed for the Holidays

 Jennifer Wuthrich

This month we wanted to focus on ribbon and what you could do with it on your layouts or projects! We challenged you to have a little fun and show us your creative style. I was amazed at what we received. I truly was inspired to pull out my ribbon and create!

Recently when I found out I would be writing this article, I did like I often do, look through the submissions we have received that month and then also look around at some of my favorite online galleries and magazines. As I was doing this, I saw a new trend with ribbon that caught my eye! The "frayed ribbon" is where an artist is pulling the ribbon apart on purpose adding a whole new dimension to the use of ribbon. I was drawn to this look. It was beautiful and my mind starting wandering to my family and the upcoming holidays.

Design note: I made the large heart out of leftover cardboard and covered it with ribbons.

My Baby Love by Amanda Laboy. Supplies: Paper: Paper Reflections, Cardstock: Bazzill, Die Cut Tag: Daisy D's, Rub-ons: Making Memories, Ribbons: American Crafts, Michael's, Pen: Sharpie, Uniball Signo.

Journaling: Nothing compares to holding you while you sleep- safe in Mommy's arms.

Journaling: Ashlee, You are such a diva!! You came downstairs today "posing" and smiling! You wanted me to take your picture since you were "all dressed up pretty". How could I resist I had to take your picture! Summer '07

Her Futures so Bright by Jennifer Wuthrich. Supplies: Paper: Basic Grey, Ribbon: offray, Chipboard: Heidi Swapp, Scenic Route, Die cut letters: Sizzix, Stickers: Making Memories, Buttons: Other, Photo Anchors: 7 Gypsies.

Editor's note: Journaling with stickers can be fun and easy. Journaling is an art form for many of us, we are always looking for new ways to change and expand our work. Incorporating stickers as the journaling is a great way to add style also to the layout.

Look What the Cat Dragged In by Jill Cornelius. Supplies: Paper: Rusty Pickle, Cardstock: Bazzill, Button: Rusty Pickle, Stickers: Rusty Pickle, Ribbon: American Crafts, Ink: Colorbox, Staples: Office Max Supply Store, Other: Embroidery Thread.
