Digital Discovery

  Lindsay Krauss

What an amazing designer we have this month as the Digital Discovery. The first thing that seems to pop out at you about Nicole’s work is the pure variety of her portfolio. Each page seems to go with its own style – and it works perfectly every time. She also makes color-blocking look easy, and she seems to love to add strategic twists to simple lines. The only “style” that seems to run between all of her styles is “classic”, although not the prehistoric-type scrapbooking that we all think of. Instead, it is great color choice with clean lines and amazing photography, all to tell luminescent stories. Congratulations, Nicole, on being this month’s Digital Discovery… enjoy the ride and come back to visit often!

Editor’s Notes: This is probably one of my favorite of Nicole’s layouts that she sent – not only is the subject (boys and trains) very near and dear to my heart (and probably most mothers-of-boys’ hearts), but she displays this story so elegantly and timelessly. Her clean lines and simple, graphic design create a calming eagerness to get to know this little boy and his story.

Journaling: Look, I'm sitting in an old train in the Railway Museum in Utrecht. It was really great there. I walked over the railway pretending that I was a train and I made a ride in a little train all by myself. Mam and dad waved at me.

Life Without Risks by Nicole Gnodde. Supplies: Template and WordArt: Simply Sarah.

Journaling: Quote:

Designer's notes: The circle of light let your eyes go the most important part of the LO. This circle is made very simple by drawing a white circle and by changing the opacity of the circle almost to zero.

Editor's Note:  Look at the fabulous way Nicole used the quote as her title.  The spacing and lines on it are divine.

Eat-Kiss-Love by Nicole e Gnodde. Supplies: Template: BlaBla Scraps, Papers: Neapolitan Paper Pack made by Teriann Hanks (Garden Scraps Design), Textboxes: Adchallenge at Designer Digitals made by Andrea Victoria, Silverheart made by Pillowgirl, Font: Maiandra GD.

Journaling: Luz Saint Sauveur, July 2006.

Design notes: The textboxes were made by cutting the text out of the box. This can be done by adding the text on top of the shape and changing it into a normal layer. Then select the text (with magic wand) and delete it from the background. The text layers itself can be deleted when you're done.

Editor’s Notes: Colorblocking is a sure-fire way to draw attention to multiple photos on a layout. Using especially different sized color and photo blocks, the subject becomes the focus.

Journaling: You've got so many faces to show us, You can look seriously, angry, disappointed, but most of all you show us a happy face! You smile, you laugh and occasionally you let me take pictures of your lovely faces.

About the designer

My name is Nicole Gnodde (a.k.a. Nikkie Scrap) and I'm a Dutch digiscrapper. I've never been creative with materials and that's why I never made a paper scrap. But about a year ago I discovered digital scrapbooking while I was searching for digital photo albums. I crossed some digital galleries and was very surprised to see all those wonderful creations. Since that moment I'm addicted to it!

I started with trying different styles and techniques and learned how to use Paint Shop Pro. A few months ago I developed my favorite style: Clean and Simple designs inspired by Cathy Zielske. Sometimes it is very hard to stop adding new elements to my pages, but I know I'm more satisfied with the simple layouts. However... there are pictures that ask for other styles and they get what they ask for!

I'm working almost full-time and I'm a mom of a lovely little boy of 3 years old, so there are just a few moments left in the week for me to sit behind my laptop and scrap. But...I cherish those hours in the late evening!!
