Discovery Drive

Lindsey Krauss

Ready to discover?! I am so very pleased to introduce Josette Julio, the first card gal I’ve featured as a discovery! Welcome to Discovery Drive! Let’s go card-hopping, shall we?

As soon as I saw the first card invitation, I knew I wanted to go card this month. There was so much fun in Josette’s work, it made for cheerful smiles and delightful squeals – even from the kids! My first thought? “Oh, how CUTE!” Josette’s use of stamps and colorization on her invitations and cards are a bit cutesy, but have an elegant flair as well. Better than any store-bought card I’ve seen lately, her work has that fun, handmade quality that her recipients are sure to enjoy.

Josette has this simple quality, but if you look too quickly, you’ll miss some fine fun details. Look at the intricate background on her pirate invitation. Did you see the footprints on her dino card? The coloring of the campfire on Cozy On Up is quite delicate – look closely!

Oh, but cards is not the only thing that Josette does! Since our interview, I’ve learned that she also stamps, scrapbooks with paper and digital scrapbooks, as well!

Congratulations, Josette. It was fun getting to know you and your work. We wish you much success and many more cards to come!

Have a Dino Day by Josette Julio. Supplies: Paper: Stampin' Up!, Die Cuts With A View, Stamps: H & M Stamps, Ink: Stampin’ Up!, Other:  green ribbon.

Editor’s Note: Adding tiny details, such as the unexpected footprints, to your next card or layout, is sure to bring smiles to your recipients. Try doing something unexpected on your next project.

You Arrr invited by Josette Julio. Supplies: Stamps: Stampin’ Up!, Ink: Stampin' Up!, Other: cardstock, embossing powders, red ribbon, water colors, and embossing powder.

Design notes: I made 12 of this invites. I found it easier since using watercolors to paint one color on all 12 so each color had time to dry.

Editor’s note: Try creating some depth on your next card as Josette did here. By designing a map-like background, this invitation is much more inviting to the eye.

Cozy on up by Josette Julio. Supplies: Paper:  Stampin' Up!, Stamps:  H & M Stamps, Ink:  Stampin' Up!, Water colors: Stampin' Up!, Staedtler, Punch:  Stampin’ Up!, Ribbon: Spicemarket, Other: paper.

Design note: I used a masking technique to have the bears head rest on the sleeping bag.

Editor’s Note: Combining a bright color palatte with a more subdued, beige palate is sure to make elements pop. Look how the sleeping bag, the photo mat and the colors of the fire stand out against the rest of the card.

Design notes: I

Pirate by Josette Julio. Supplies: Paper: Karen Foster Designs, Watercolors:  Staedtler, Stickers: Karen Foster, Other: ink.

I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful boys ages 6 and 2. My oldest son has mild autism so I find each day to be new, exciting and sometimes stressful challenges. When I’m not spending time with my boys, I love to scrapbook, stamp and bake. I try to keep my pages simple and clean but I am slowly starting to realize how exciting the pages can be if you combined patterns and put together colors you never thought of before.

Digital scrapbooking is my new passion, for a while now I’ve seen it, but I knew if I ever got started I would be hooked - and now I am. It’s amazing the possibilities that are out there as far as kits and embellishments. Scrapbooking is my way to relax and a way to re-live great memories. With my pages it is my hope that my children’s children will have great memories and know how much work and love I put into each page.  You can visit Josette's blogs here and here.
