The Perfect Blend
I think that’s how I would describe myself. My name is Terry McAuliffe (aka Kitty), I joined ScrapStreet
in June of 2007 and knew immediately that I
had found my new cyber-home. I had been
scrapbooking for several years at that
point, but hadn’t pushed myself to think
outside the box. Yes, I was still a lover of
the infamous sticker-sneeze. I lurked for a
few months. Commenting here and there, but
never starting a thread of my own. I
couldn’t imagine what I had to offer that
these ladies would find interesting. I
played Bingo with the gang for a few months
and was then told that I needed a character.
Told them I had no clue, to go ahead and
just give me one. And Hello Kitty made her
first appearance on the boards.
For some reason, Hello Kitty allowed me an alter-ego on the boards. I could let my real personality show through without the rejection, humiliation, or just plain being ignored that happened at other places on the internet. And, you know what, I fit in! I felt accepted. I felt un-judged! I felt at home. Since then Kitty and the real Terry seem to have melded together and become one.
Terry is married to a man who supports her scrapbook habit and gets as much enjoyment watching her play on the “Streets” as she gets doing it. Terry is the mother of 3 teenagers. Terry is the lover of all animals, great and small. Terry has a hard time feeling comfortable with people until she’s gotten to know them for a while. Terry has a tendency to be very paranoid: people don’t like her, people think her stuff is no good, people in general just don’t get her. Terry would be devastated if she hurt anybody’s feelings.
Kitty, on the other hand, loves to be
mischievous. Kitty lets little tidbits of information out that Terry would otherwise keep hidden. Kitty loves to play games and tease. Kitty thinks nothing of starting threads on the board that seem to be random and come out of nowhere. Kitty seems to balance Terry perfectly.
That is how my spin on Chat Lane came to be. I found that the balance of Kitty and Terry was a perfect way take over and let imagination run wild. I enjoy writing the recap of the hijinks, heartaches, achievements and the day-to-day real-life adventures of ScrapStreet in a third person, especially when that third person is new and unexpected every month.
As my personality has grown and revealed itself since 2007, so has my scrapping style, taste and skill. I am glad to say that I have moved on from the traditional “sticker sneeze” and have fallen in loved with layers and patterned paper, dimension that can be found with chipboard, flowers, buttons and brads. I’ve torn, burned, rolled, crimped and pleated my paper. I’ve inked, misted, masked and sanded my pages. I have even discovered the artistic outlet of altering and creating my own journals.
