Fur Fun in the Sunshine

Everyone is so excited to see the warmer summer weather return after the blustery winter and soggy spring.  The whole family, right down to the fur babies,  rush to get into the warmth of the sunshine.  The artists highlighted in this month’s article showcase the different ways that their babies enjoy the summer sunshine.  Even my two side-kicks, Rover and Fluffy, get their dander up over the thought of finding their spot of sunshine!

Rover’s notes:  Gotta love the star of this layout!  A puppy who’s found his forever home, taking a break from fun and posing for a photo shoot in the sunshine!

Love, Amour by Katherine Hansen.  Digital Supplies:  Wordart, Heart from A La Carte Wordart kit, Paper from Island paper kit, Film strip from Photocuts - Filmstrip v.1, Frame from Photocuts - Frames v.1, Mask from Photocuts - Masks #3 (modified), Brush from Romance Me (add-on pack), all by Vinnie Pearce, Fonts: 39 Smooth (dafont), Calibri.

Design notes:  Journaling doesn't have to mean sentences and paragraphs of information (although in some cases this is needed to tell the full story). In my page, I opted for a checklist of bullet-points, focusing solely on the qualities and traits that have made my family fall in love with our rescue puppy. I think this has as much impact as sentences, and yet it doesn't distract from the dog herself, which is who I wanted to feature. Also, when doing a series of photos on a page, I really like to keep all but one picture black & white or sepia toned; the focus picture I like to keep in color for more impact.

Editor's notes:   Nothing shouts summer like a warm, comfy cat basking in the sunshine!  Crystal captures a summer moment when her cat is doing just that.  The bold title overlapping the photos is what initially drew me to the layout.  It’s the contented look on the cat’s face that won me over.

Stretch Out and Relax by Crystal Brothers.  Supplies:  Paper: EK Success, Multicraft, Ribbon:  Autumn Leaves, Stickers:  Forever in Time.

Fluffy’s Two-Cents:   Ahh!  Gotta love this layout!  I wanna be right where this lucky cat is!  Please, please, please.

Rover’s note:  My heart bleeds for Jonah, how wonderful that he found a forever home, and was granted such joy!  I really like how the human artist added a bit of whimsy to the story with the fun, funky border.

Play With Me by Karen Erickson.  Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Stickers:  Miss Elizabeth's, American Crafts, Doodlebug Design, Carolee’s Creations, Chalk: Colorbox, Pen:  Zig, Template:  The Crafter’s Workshop, Cutting Tool:  QuicKutz.

Design notes:  This is Jonah, a German Shepherd mix. He was one of my favorite clients to dog sit when I lived in Oregon. In the list of his attributes I should add "lonely." Jonah was an outside dog and received very little love or attention from his owners. He was one of the smartest dogs I've ever worked with. He could carry three tennis balls in his mouth and drop them one at a time on command. He was a fast learner and did not require treat training. He LOVED attention. When the owner suffered a mild heart attack, they decided to get rid of Jonah. I asked if I could find a new home for him and they agreed. I knew a young family who already had two dogs and three active kids. It was love at first sight for all of them! Jonah lived the rest of his days as a housedog, lavished with love and all the attention he craved. I got to see him often! The only problem his new owners encountered with Jonah was keeping him off the soccer field during the kids' games!! Jonah died last year.
