Discovery Drive

Lindsey Krauss

Welcome to Discovery Drive! This month’s designer, Nathalie Chauchadis, was discovered far away in the south of France. Since Nathalie worked so hard with me translating her work and words into English, I will use an online translating service to hopefully put my English words into French.

One of the best things about Nathalie’s scrapbooking is that you never know what she’s going to do. I love how her style changes with each photo she decorates. You may get linear, you may get grungy, and you may even get whimsical. Whichever style she chooses, you can tell she pulls inspiration directly from her fantastic photos.

Congratulations and thank you, Nathalie, for being discovered for ScrapStreet. We wish you much success and much more time to design!

Forgive me if the translation isn’t quite understandable, but I’ll do my best without speaking a bit of French!

Design notes:  A simple line design with buttons can create a beautiful effect.

RESPECT by Nathalie Chauchadis.  Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Buttons: Foofala, Stamps: Hero Arts, PSX, Letter Stickers: American Crafts.

Editor’s notes:   Think you can’t do a landscape layout? Go with white space as Nathalie did. Keep your photos the same size you normally would and add border embellishments.

PETIT OISEAU (little bird) by Nathalie Chauchadis. Supplies: Paper: Onirie, Stamps: Bloomini, Sassafras Lass, Stickers: KésiArt, Gaffer tape: 7Gypsies, Letter Stickers: American Crafts, Rose Moka, Buttons: Foofala.

Design note: The age of my son is written with the gaffer tape and a little stickers "m" for month.

Editor’s Note: Color combo can complete any photo if done right. Try Nathalie’s technique: combine a small-patterned bright background paper with another bright larger-pattered paper from directly across the color wheel.

UN PETIT AIR ADO (a little teen's look) by Nathalie Chauchadis. Supplies: Paper: Fanfreluches Designs, Masks: Tim Holtz, Inks: Ranger, Rub-ons: Toga, Frills: Doodlebug, Tag: Sassafras Lass, Stickers: KesiArt, Creative Imaginations, Letter Stickers: Toga, American Crafts, Other: little sign, recycled from a child's pair of pants.

Design notes: Cutting the subject from the photo is a great way to provide drama and emotion to your page.   To create the teen's look for this layout, use ink in little marks and masculine masks with distress ink.

COUSINS - COPAINS (cousins-friends) by Nathalie Chauchadis. Supplies: Paper: BasicGrey, Stamps: My Little Yellow Bicycle, Other: paint, recycled cardboard.

Design note: Don't forget to recycle daily objects while you scrap!

Editor’s notes: Sometimes more is more! If you’re not in  the mood to go simple, go big, go lots and go grunge. Nathalie uses plenty of paint, color and font to scurry up her page, making her photo pop in the meanwhile.

Hi, my name is Nathalie Chauchadis. I'm 38 years old and I live far from you in the south of France. I discovered scrapbooking six years ago and since then I'm a different girl! I found a new expression in this art. I love to scrap my son's daily life, but travel, landscape and friends also inspire me. I work in an office for urban development, so I don’t have much time for my scrapping, but I need this time out of my day. I'm so proud to be a member of three French design teams (online shop "autour du papier", clear manufacturer "Zibuline" and magazine "EntreARTistes magazine").  I hope you enjoy my French scrapping and one day I hope to visit your fabulous country. However scrapping is a fantastic alternative!  Vist me on my blog
