| | Bold & Bright Diana Brodeur | | Of all the various types of layouts out there, the bold and bright ones are by far my favorite. I love how the color on these layouts just pops right off the page at you! Bold and bright layouts will definitely stand out from the crowd any day of the week. Take Mia’s page for example. She uses bright colors not only all over her page but also in her pictures. I can almost hear the giggles and feel the water splashing on my face. Jill uses a nice white background to make her colors brighter and more visible. I love how she chose a large two and repeated it throughout her layout to emphasis the subject of her journaling. My layout has a black background to help make the colors appear more vibrant and to portray a playful feeling to the viewer. | | | Design notes: In order to keep the focus on the photos, I layered papers & embellishments in such a way that even though there are several layers your eye would still be drawn back to these gorgeous photos. I loved the color of the Prima flower as it matched the little girl's swimsuit but I felt it was too big and would overwhelm the page. In order to remedy that, I took apart the flower and used the smaller circles so as not to take away from the photos. | Summer Time Fun by Mia Caniza. Supplies: Paper: BasicGrey, GCD Studios, Sassafras Lass, Stickers: Pink Paislee, K & Company, Chipboard: Maya Road, Pink Paislee, Flowers: Heidi Swapp, Prima, Rub-ons: GCD Studios, K & Company, Brad: Imaginisce, Ticket: Jenni Bowlin, Spray Ink: Maya Road, Tattered Angels, Felt: Heidi Swapp, Ribbon: American Crafts, Other: buttons, lace, staple. Design notes: I am also a big fan of mists and what better way to evoke the feeling of water splashing than to give the page a few sprays of turquoise mist. Journaling: Chesca enjoying her first swim of the season. | Design notes: This page uses lots of repetition -- in the journaling ("what it means..."), the colors, the strips of paper, as well as in the use of accents (lots of 2's, a his/hers couple, and a pair of brads). Repetition really helps to reinforce a theme, and it also makes journaling easier by keeping it focused, bringing it back around constantly to a central phrase or idea. | | What It Means by Jill Sprott. Supplies: Paper: Studio Calico, October Afternoon, Sassafras Lass, Letters: Heidi Swapp, Chipboard: Sassafras Lass, Card: October Afternoon, Brads: Sassafras Lass, Acrylic people: Maya Road, Paint: Making Memories, Ink: KI Memories. Journaling: "What it means is that we walk through this world together... What it means is that there is comfort in this touch, and at the same time, there is always that snap, crackle, and pop... What it means is that we are a matched pair. We fit." | Design notes: In order to keep with the whimsical effect as well as to fill in the white space of this layout, I hand drew some smiley faces. | All Smiles by Diana Brodeur.
