Bold & Bright

Janis G. Medina-Maghinay

Whenever I’m feeling a bit low, I scrap pictures of my kids to lift my spirits. I noticed though that the more I feel depressed, the bolder and brighter the patterned papers that I use.

This got me thinking though - - does this mean I’m always depressed (for I am Ms. Bold and Bright to my scrappy friends)? Nah, there is just something in creating bold and bright layouts that makes you feel happy. The colors jump right at you and make the pictures you use more fun and alive - - whether the pictures you use be in color or in black and white or mixed.

The pages below are examples of bold and bright layouts. Cookie went full color blast with her colored pictures and bold titling. Bjay used a large-sized black and white single photo to anchor and offset the multiple colors and designs in her page. I decided to use both colored and black and white pictures just to spice things up and show that you can have both worlds with bold and bright colors.

Don’t these layouts make you feel happy?

Design notes:  I love to layer when creating my pages. For this layout, I just teared and distressed each paper that I put in. I also love using chipboards as embellies. I painted and stamped on my chipboards to give them texture. I also used Glimmer mist and also crackle paint together with acrylic paint on them.

Harvey Turns Four by Cookie C. Aguilar.  Supplies:  Paper: October Afternoon, Fancy Pants, Transparency: Hambly, Maya Road, Frame: Chatterbox, Chipboard: Chatterbox, Maya Road, Buzz and Boom, American Crafts, Pressed Petals, Paint: Making Memories, Ranger, Glitter: Tattered Angels, Ink: Clearsnap, Stickers: Making Memories, Rub-ons: Hambly, Bingo Card: Jenni Bowlin, Magic Mesh, Other: kraft paper, feather, corrugated board.

Journaling:   Independent, Handsome, Smart

Design notes:  I used a large-sized black and white single photo to anchor and offset the mutiple colors and designs in the patterned papers. I also used a strip of patterned paper below and a chipboard on top to break the monotony of the linear design. This was a fun layout to make!

Spark by Bjay P. Jaminal.  Supplies:  Paper: Pink Paislee, Sassafrass Lass, October Afternoon, Moxxie, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Journaling Spot: Jenni Bowlin, Chipboard: Buzz and Bloom, Sassafrass Lass, American Crafts, Pen: American Crafts, Paint: Making Memories, Brad: Making Memories.

Journaling:   The world is your stage, Tffee!

Design notes:  The layout’s design is based on Scrapbook Challenges’ Sketch #141. I used a small black and white picture to balance the black arrow I cut-out on the lower side. This is my first time to mix black and white and colored pictures in my layout and I totally love the effect.

Hearing your Laughter by Janis G. Medina-Maghinay.  Supplies:  Paper: Jillibean Soup, Cardstock; Bazzill Basics Paper, Stamp: Autumn Leaves, Stickers: Jillibean Soup, Die-cuts: Quickutz, Ink: Tsukineko, Clearsnap, Pen: Sakura Other: buttons.

Journaling: Laugh as often as you can for your laughter is infectious!
