Digital Discovery

Lindsay Krauss

Ahhh, what we have on our hands for the first summer installment of Digital Discovery is a story teller! Recapturing those memories, moments and stories by camera is one thing. Retelling them with capturing and colorful words is another!

Welcome to Digital Discovery, and please welcome Kayleigh Wiles! Kayleigh’s newborn daughter and I were competing as to who would ‘meet’ Kayleigh first, and her new little Makenna won! So as we read and meet, we’re wishing big brother Spencer, daddy Eric and Kayleigh special blessings (and maybe an hour or two of extra sleep) on their new little girl!

As I said before, I just love how Kayleigh tells her stories. While the collage of beautiful pictures in her first layout caught my attention initially, it was her stories that drew me in. Now you, too, have the pleasure of stepping into Kayleigh’s stories of ‘mommyhood’ with me. Everyday moments seem to sparkle in Kayleigh’s words – we’ve all been there as mothers, and it’s crucially important to remember those seemingly unimportant stories along with the precious memories and photos. Examples? Kayleigh brings us a story of choosing a battle with her toddler, those memories of the last few pregnancy moments, and of course blowing kisses – all anecdotes for better or worse!

Congratulations, Kayleigh, not only on being discovered, but on your new family and what’s to come. We wish you blessings, success, and many, many more stories to come.

Design notes:  Don't be afraid to mix colour & black & white photos together; the contrast adds lots of visual impact. Line up photos in a simple row to create a photo block

Life Choices by: Kayleigh Wiles. Digital supplies:  Share No. 02 Layered Template, Between the Lines Alphabet No. 02, Metal Clip Assortment, Date Strip Stamps No. 03, Roughed Up Krafty Paper Pack, Graphic Pop Postage Strips, butterfly & orange brad by Botanist Notebook No. 23 Kit, Assorted Tapes No. 02, Simple Spots No. 02, Flossy Stitches: Orange, all from Katie Pertiet, Memory Tags, Growing Up Hand-Drawn Brushes from Ali Edwards, Forest Paper Pack, Forest Solid Paper Pack from Andrea Victoria, Stitched by Anna White No. 02 from Anna Aspnes, (all at Designer Digitals).

Design notes:  It is so important in our family’s legacies to capture the little moments in life. If I had not documented this battle between my son and I (over putting toys away), we probably would have forgotten it. This was not a happy or fun moment, but so important to still capture. I often use templates as a starting point to a page but often 'rework' them a bit - shrink them down, move the grouping around on the page, rotate them.

That Stage by Kayleigh Wiles. Digital supplies:  Layered Memories No. 39 by Michelle Martin, How’d They Do That No. 18 Weaving Words by Cassie Jones, SpringRoll Kit, SpringRoll Linen Papers by Mindy Terasawa, Tailed Journalers, Date Spots, Graphic Pop Border Strips, Doodledo Whimsy No. 02 Brushes and Stamps, Splatters No. 02 Brushes and Stamps, Messy Stamped Trims Brushes-n-Stamps, Basic Paper Alphabet: White, Photo Wraps No. 02, Flossy Stitches: White by Katie Pertiet, DIY Acrylic Alphabet No. 02, Anchor Its! by Pattie Knox, HandMade Paperie No. 01, Torn N Tattered Scalloped PaperStrips No. 01, Stitched by Anna White No. 02, Stitched by Anna White No. 03 by Anna Aspnes, Vintage Tape Measures by Lynn Grieveson, Everyday Twill by Ali Edwards, (all at Designer Digitals).

Design notes:  Adding lots of layers of elements & brushwork in an organized manner adds lots of texture to a page. Use a monochromatic colour scheme with a black & white or sephia photo. Create a list for simple journaling.

Design notes:  Have fun with paper. Use a mix of various designs to create a collage then stitch it all together for a quilted look

Smooch by Kayleigh Wiles.  Digital Supplies:  Little Princess Kit, Naturally Krafty Paper Pack, Date Strip Stamps No. 01, Shaped Notebook Journalers, Game Cards: Love by Katie Pertiet, Baby Pink Patterns + Solids Papers by Ali Edwards, Aryanna Paper Pack by Michelle Martin, Love Word Jumbles Mega Pak by Rob and Bob Studios, HeartStitched by Anna White No. 01, Hipster Plumes No. 05 BrushSet, 12 X 12 Painted Edge Overlays No. 02 by Anna Aspens, Have a Heart Felts No. 02, Frosted Alphabet No. 01 Lowercase by Pattie Knox (all at Designer Digitals).

Journaling:  I love how these days you will put your hand up to your mouth and blow without moving your hand away to actually ‘blow’ it. You like to send a kiss to mom or dad, a character in your book or in a movie. You like it when people catch the kisses by pretending to fall over by the impact, or get smacked in the face by the strength of these smooches.

My passion for scrapbooking allows me to capture my families legacy while allowing my creative roots to prosper. I have been a digital scrapbooker since November 2007, but a retired paper scrapper for ages! I enjoy the creative freedom I have found with digital, plus being able to scrapbook with my laptop in bed is a fantastic bonus! I have a very supportive husband, Eric of almost 3 years. Together we have a 2 year old little man Spencer and a newborn baby girl Makenna. Vist me on my blog
