Add a Border

I am sure I am not the only person to remember the days of photos that came back from the printers with that little white border around them! Sometimes when you are doing a layout you do not want to use a photo mat or fancy frame to emphasise your special photo, so why not simply add your own border? I do this most of the time with my photos!

I am using Photoshop CS3 so the screenprints will look a little different to those of you with PSE, but the principle is the same once you find this handy little feature - the Stroke! It was on the Edit/Adjustment menu when I used PSE4, so if you use PSE take the time to track it down! As you can see from the screenprint I have clicked on the layer option to bring up my effects menu and selected stroke.

Click on the color box to change the color of the border you want. I tend to choose white, but you can choose whatever you fancy! Then ensure that the position is set to outside so the border goes around the edge of your photo.
