It is said that laughter is the best medicine and I couldn’t agree more.  A good giggle can change your mood and make any situation seem a bit brighter. This month, April Fools’ Day gives us the excuse to put a little fun into our lives.  In the spirit of this silly celebration, we are going to put the focus on adding humor to our scrapbooking pages.

There is a variety of ways to achieve this goal.  Think about those magazines that have entire sections dedicated to the funny things that kids say!  It can go beyond the little ones as other family members serve as a source of comedic relief.  How about recording those situations or conversations that made you laugh out loud by creating a page!  When designing the layout, you don’t need a photograph of that exact moment.  Simply use a photograph of the subject laughing or complete a page with no pictures to put the emphasis on the journaling.  Keep your colors and embellishments bright and fun to match the theme!

The pages below are no laughing matter!  Liana kept her journaling simple by writing a brief, but very funny exchange she had with her daughter.  I documented a memorable and humorous conversation that I had with my son.  Both are the kind of pages that you will want to share with your child’s significant other when he/she is all grown up.  Paula took this approach a step further by documenting all the sources of comedy in her life.  Notice how she sweetly included her two children.  Each layout will help the reader hold on to these hilarious memories over time.

Design notes: To use a different approach to journaling, I created a talk bubble from my Cricut machine.  I then adhered rub-ons, stickers and some cut-outs for a fun look.

Now That’s Funny by Liana Suwandi.  Supplies: Paper: KI Memories, SEI, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Paper Frills: Doodlebug, Corner Punch: EK success, Ribbon: SEI, Ribbon Holder: Making Memories, Chipboard: Deluxe Design, Epoxy sticker: SEI, Sticker: EK Success, Brad: Making Memories, Rub-ons: Scenic Route, ART warehouse, Die Cuts With a View, Office supply, Hambly Prints, Stamp: 7 Gypsies, Tools: Sizzix, Cricut (both by Provo Craft), Other: acrylic paint, pen.

Journaling:  Me: I Love you Karina. Do you love me? Karina: NO. But uncle Frendy love you.  Now that's funny.

Design notes: As soon as this conversation was finished, I ran downstairs to record it in a journal that I keep! Since the actual incident occurred as I was tucking him into bed one night, I didn’t have the opportunity to get pictures.  Instead, I captured these photographs by putting on one of his favorite cartoons.  As he laughed, I snapped away!  The colors and design are bold and playful, just like the conversation was!

Giggles by Stacey Michaud.  Supplies:  Paper:  Cosmo Cricket, Cardstock:  Bazzill Basics Paper, Journaling Tag:  Cosmo Cricket, Chipboard Title:  K & Company, Grungeboard:  Tim Holtz, Word Stickers:  Creative Imaginations, Buttons:  Autumn Leaves, Paper Clip:  Staples.

Journaling:  Inauguration night I brought up Barack Obama.  You said, “Is Barack Obama coming to our house when we’re sleeping?”  “Um, no. Nathan, he is not like Santa Claus,” I replied.  “Is he like the Easter bunny,” you asked.  One day you’ll get a kick out of this story.

Design notes: I did this layout for an online challenge at the Journaler's Junction blog to do your journaling on a slant. It was a bit of a departure for me.  I'm not generally a big fan of tilts but I think it works here with my topic.

Title: ROFL by Paula Gilarde.  Digital Supplies:  Paper from Hoot Papers, Ribbon and Hoot Elements by Andrea Victoria, Party Pop Dots Alphabet Black and White by Art Warehouse, Notebook No 02 paper pack and Doodled Block Alphabet No 02 brushes-n-stamps by Katie Pertiet, Stitched By Anna White No 01 by Anna Aspnes (all from Designer Digitals).

Journaling:  1. How I met your mother. My Monday night favorite. Barney makes me howl with laughter. 2. Louis C.K. He's irreverent and outrageous. I love the fact that he's got a girl Molly's age and tells it like it is. That, and I think it's cool that I know his mom :), 3. Jon. LOVE him. His facial expressions slay me! 4. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - oh my God, I totally love this. Pushing the envelope doesn't even cover it! Totally insane does. I'm shocked and giddy every time I watch it. 5. Sometimes there isn't anything funnier than listening to these two be silly together. They crack each other (and me!) up!
