Discovery Drive

Lindsey Krauss

Welcome back to Discovery Drive! I’m pleased to introduce you to Ingrid Muller, a well-traveled, well-spoken, fun artist! Ingrid designs with a style that is simple but not simplistic. She’s bright but not neon. And we love how creative she is with her scrapbook “stash” supplies – and household supplies as well!

Ingrid is a perfect example showing us that you don’t have to go overboard when creating the perfect page. She’s not afraid of white space. She’s also not afraid to layer and use multiple embellishments, but she places her supplies so that the clean, simple design still prevails. For Ingrid, a slight distress of ink and edge scraping and perhaps the addition of some fun household supplies (find the string, rope, raffia and even pictures of her son’s games!) Ingrid is also a master at telling a story, even sometimes without journaling a word. She reminds us that sometimes, that’s okay, too – remember the picture is worth quote? She does!

Congratulations, Ingrid. We were pleased and proud to feature you and your fun, clean style. We wish you luck and more happy creative creating.

Design notes: I chose not to have journaling - as they say "a picture says more than 1000 words."

My Girl by Ingrid Muller. Supplies: Paper: BasicGrey, Making Memories, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Ghost letters: Heidi Swapp, Alpha stickers: Making Memories, Other: buttons, Liquid Pearls, butterfly punch used as a mask, tickets, crochet flowers, lace, string, fluid chalk.

Editor’s Note: Go for natural elements and color shades to design with a beachy feel – even if the page isn’t about the beach, it becomes alive with a quiet calm and reminiscent feel.

Blow Bubbles by Ingrid Muller. Supplies: Paper: Making Memories, Chipboard Letters: Scenic Route, Alpha stickers: Making Memories, Other: die-cut flowers, buttons, ribbon, string, chipboard circle.

Editor’s Note: Just look at the title! So many scrapbookers are fans of alphas, but running out of letters is always a problem. Finding new and creative ways to use your leftovers is always a challenge. Don’t forget flipping letters and using the insides, as Ingrid did.

Design note: Sometimes it's ok just to keep it simple – I usually love piling on the embellishments.  The title is put together with a bit of imagination: I was missing both the M and O, so used an upside-down W and the inside of the B.

Lazy Summer Days by Ingrid Muller. Supplies: Paper: Making Memories, Chatterbox, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Transparency: Hambley , Paperfrill: Doodlebug, Letters: American Crafts, Dymo embossed, Other:  buttons, fiber, string, sequin flower.

Editor’s Note: You always hear “scrap from your stash” – and I love what Ingrid has done with her supply.

Design note: This is a typical example of my "use-what-you-find-on-your-desk" layout. My scrapping desk is super messy, but I like it that way! I just look around and pick up bits and pieces of leftover paper and embellishment and use them for my next projects. Amazing what treasures one can find under the mess.

Design notes: The main embellishments here are printouts of the disks of my son's favorite computer games!

The Things You Think About by Ingrid Muller. Supplies: Paper: Junkitz, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Papers, Chipboard letters: Scenic Route, Alpha stickers: Making Memories, Grungeboard: Tim Holtz Skull, Other: string, pompom ribbon, fluid chalk.

Journaling: "books you read", "funny jokes", "how to perform experiments", "computer games".

Hi there! I'm Ingrid! And I am so excited to be featured here this month! I was born in South Africa, grew up in Norway, and now live in Israel with my husband and our 4 children, aged 1, 4, 7 and 9.  (Yep, they make sure there is never a dull moment around here!)  I started scrapbooking (as we know it today) when my 4-year old was a baby, but have really always been decorating my albums and notebooks... though, then, I didn't know that it actually had a name! I will happily admit to being a scrapaholic! I get such a rush when I sit down and start creating, surrounded by beautiful papers and embellishment. My kids make jokes about me: when my oldest was 6 someone asked him what his mommy does, and he answered "oh, she cuts up little pieces of paper."  Thanks again for giving me this opportunity!  Visit me at my family website, my scrap blog, or my cards section.
