Kit Club

Brianne Nevill

Someone once said, “Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul”.  Music is a part of the daily life of all of us and sometimes can be the soundtrack of our triumphs, our joys, and even our mistakes.  When it comes to scrapbooking, song titles and lyrics can be seen as layout titles, unique embellishments, and even journaling.  I find some of my best inspiration for scrapbooking while listening to my favorite music, which is why this month I challenged the kit club to create something with a musical reference.  It could be anything: the title, the subject of the page, or even the journaling.  As always, these girls never cease to amaze me with their talent, as well as their creativity to incorporate music into their layouts.

Linda’s page took my breath away with the photo of her daughter.  The title to her page, “Love Has No Boundaries”, is a perfect sentiment when talking about the love we have for our family.  Michelle’s crazy canines are always a favorite of mine and this page is no exception.  It made me laugh to think about her dogs fighting over the bones and the thought process that must be going on inside their heads while doing it.  Even before I opened Dora’s photo in her email, I sat there completely absorbed and consumed with the lyrics of the song she chose.  As I opened the photo everything just came together beautifully.  Her work always inspires me, but this layout is completely gorgeous.

Design note: The lyrics I chose, "love has no boundaries" are from the song “Believe” written by Elton John.  The lyrics to this song are so beautiful.  Here is a sample from that song: “I believe in love, it's all we got, Love has no boundaries, costs nothing to touch…Everything crumbles sooner or later But love, I believe in love”

Love Has No Boundaries by Linda Lindley.  Supplies: Paper: Pink Paislee, Cardstock: Close To My Heart, Stamps: Unity Stamp Company, Ink: Clearsnap, Pearls: Kaiser Craft.

Editor's note:

The title of this layout comes from the song "Dog with a bone" by Queen.

Dog with a Bone by Michelle Boeckermann. Digital Supplies: Paper, Frame from Daisy Kit by Designs by Krista (digital bytes), Font: Dead Secretary.

Journaling: You rarely get the bone. You never get it first. You're the Napoleon of our dogs. You love to play keep away from Maggie once you get it. Under the table or maybe in her face you saunter around like the king of the castle even if you can barely hold it in your mouth. It’s not a full bone anymore. It’s the prized knuckle they save for the end. The big dogs of the house, yes they know one small look in a different direction could mean the loss of that bone. They know your tenacity towards being a power player in this game of bone collecting. Sometimes you even get a chance to actually chew on the thing before it's forcefully removed by Dusty and Maggie double teaming you... But you never give up. You like the Power of the bone.

Design note:

To add a little extra dimension, I twisted and knotted a ribbon using glue dots here and there.  I really love the way it carries they eye to the bottom of the page and across.

Still Unwritten by Dora Phillips.  Supplies:  Paper:  BasicGrey, Clear Elements, Chipboard, Sticker:  Heidi Swapp, Ribbon: Offray, Font:  Journaling Hand.

Journaling:

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines/ We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way / Staring at the blank page before you / Open up the dirty window / Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find / Reaching for something in the distance / So close you can almost taste it / Release your inhibitions / Feel the rain on your skin / No one else can feel it for you / Only you can let it in / No one else, no one else / Can speak the words on your lips / Drench yourself in words unspoken / Live your life with arms wide open / Today is where your book begins / Feel the rain on your skin / No one else can feel it for you / Only you can let it in / No one else, no one else / Can speak the words on your lips / Drench yourself in words unspoken / Live your life with arms wide open / Today is where your book begins / The rest is still unwritten

I love stories--reading them, hearing them, telling them, writing them--which is why I love scrapping so much.  I want to tell all my stories.  This song has been my ring tone for more than a year now because I just adore the message:  today is a blank page waiting for me to write the story.
