Baby it's cold outside! Winter is upon us here in Colorado.  This week (as I am writing) we are dealing with some of the coldest winter days that we have experienced this year.  Along with our extremely cold weather, we have some beautiful snow falling!  It’s been rather difficult for my children, as they watch this shiny new “white stuff” falling from the sky and having to stay indoors due to the below freezing temperatures.  My mom “voice” is telling me to prepare them as the cold season is just beginning and they will soon have many indoor days.

So as we are approaching the cold season and the kids are indoors more, which also means that we are indoors more.  What are we going to do with all of our extra inside time?  Well scrap of course!  What better way to shake off those “winter blues” than to pull out those fun embellishments that sparkle & shine! That’s right, I am talking about your bling, glitter, jewels, and Stickles.

Design note: This layout is adapted from a Becky Higgins sketch. I decided to dig out some old supplies and used shaped buttons on top of rub-ons to add dimension to the design. I also used Stickles to the paper elements to give the design extra character!

Snow Tubing by Kelly Cranfill.  Supplies: Paper, Cardstock Tags, Rub-ons, Stickers, Trims: Rusty Pickle, Bling: Me and My Big Ideas, Heidi Swapp, Other: buttons.

Journaling: We went snow tubing with Jake, Charles & Flora - fun times!

Design note:

When I think of a snowy day, I think of the shimmer on the newly-fallen snow.  Glitter papers and embellishments that sparkle add that feeling of fun and excitement: sledding, snow, shine, coldness, with a hint of warmth. Whether it is glitter chipboard, die cuts, or even just additional bling , it brings the whole piece around to create a feeling of a snowy day.   I love the introduction of all of the glitter papers into scrapbooking; there is nothing better to me than that "ooh la la" look!

Snowday Layout by Beth Root.  Supplies: Paper: Reminisce, Chipboard: Melissa Frances, Flowers: Heidi Grace, Die cuts: Me and My Big Ideas, Chipboard accent: Scenic Route, Other: ribbon.

Journaling: Fabulous hill, Beautiful sun, and our new sled. 07'

Design note:

I wanted this layout to just focus on the photo of my daughter, so I kept it pretty simple.  I dry brushed some acrylic paint on the edge of the patterned paper just to add the effect of snow...the Pearls add just enough embellishment to the layout and touch of pink to enhance the acrylic snowflakes. They helped dress up an otherwise very simple layout.

Snow Angel by Reneé Morris-Dezember. Supplies: Paper: Bazzill, Reminisce, Acrylic Snowflakes: Heidi Swapp, Ribbon: Little Yellow Bicycle, Stickers: 9 Cloud Designs, Other, Punch: Stampin’ Up!, Pearls: Kaiser Scrapbook, Other: paint, stitching.
