Baby It’s Cold Outside!

  Michelle McClung

As scrapbookers, we are always looking for photo opportunities so we can document, preserve memories, and make rockin’, artistic pages to "OOOOO" and "AAAAH" over! Wintertime can be a wealth of photographic prospects which are not hard to find!

Since cold is synonymous with wintertime, it’s easy to demonstrate the temperatures of the season on layouts without having to state it; photos of people bundled up, red, rosy cheeks, and the use of cooler colors (as did the creators of the following layouts) such as blue, which is the most popular color to demonstrate cold temperatures.

Design notes: I re-colored several elements to match my daughter's hat and scattered them to make the design more interesting.

Snow by Ariadna Wiczling. Digital Supplies: Paper: Christmas Magic Collection by Ariadna Wiczling, Transparency from Overlayed Collection by Mandy Steward, Stamped Alpha from Brush Set: Herbal Alpha by Ariadna Wiczling, Snowflakes: Chillin Collection by Dinny Miller, Bar Code: Acrylic Love Collection by Ariadna Wiczling, Brush Paint Stroke, Zipper: A Guy Thing Collection, Felt Style: (applied to the paint stroke) SS Tools Styles: Felt 8201 by Ariadna Wiczling, Tape Brush Set: Nearly Taped by Mandy Steward, Date Brushes: Parcel Dates by Ariadna Wiczling, Paint Chip: Paint Chip Embellishments by Mandy Steward (all supplies  at ScrapGirls), Font: Gapstown AH, Software: Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Journaling: Bianka, you loved snow and we, as all good parents, wanted to let you play outside as much as you could. But on that day we could walk no farther than a few yards away from the house. It was snowing really hard and was sooo cold! We were back home in just a few minutes. Call it a Saturday walk!

Journaling: We were so excited to see Niagara Falls, but coming from a 30 degree summer, we were naive about just how cold 'cold' was. The guy who took our photo for us must have thought we were honeymooners; little did he know we were barely breathing from hypothermia. Well at least we can say we were there & saw it. We live & learn hey!

Niagra by Kim Watson. Supplies: Paper: KI Memories, American Crafts, Tinkering Ink, Heidi Swapp, Making Memories, Alphas: Prima, Epoxy: Making Memories, Buttons: Autumn Leaves, Felt: Michael’s, Tinkering Ink, Ink: Clearsnap, Other: sewing machine, lace, tag off cushion, embroidery thread, vintage ticket.

Design notes: This page was about part of our Canadian trip to see Niagara; it was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen....except we almost froze to death out there. We did however see the funny side of the fact that we were half frozen, but enjoyed the awesome experience none the less. I took my KI map paper & crushed up for texture...then stitched it onto my craft base. It gave me the feeling of warmth as well a holiday feeling. I was also determined to use a load of photos on the layout without using 'white- space, so printed out index size prints for a change. I still get a feel for the outing without being crowded by nine images! The rest of the layout I inked & layered & stitched & 3D'd with puff tape & enjoyed immensely. A note: the Voyager tag at the top came off my travel flight cushion...I kept it as a souvenir.

Design notes: To give my paper a frosted look I used an old paint brush and some white paint. Check out the cute brads in the snowflakes, an initial for each child.

Friends by Lydia Jackson. Supplies: Papers: Bazzill Basic Papers, Scenic Route, Letters: Making Memories, Acrylic Snowflakes, Gems: Heidi Swapp, Brad: Around the Block Brads.

Journaling: Look at the three of you! This is the first snow this year and you love it. Your rosy Cheek show such joy. Each of you have eaten more than a few handfuls of snow and enjoyed pulling on the willow branches to get showered with the white stuff. Tannin you even started a snow ball fight in the driveway. It is no small thing to have such good friends from the day that you are born. I hope that each of you know how lucky you are.
