Welcome to Discovery Drive, Emily C. Kleinman!
Emily is full of energy, positivity and
happiness – her personality and her pages! Where
to start? Color is her friend. Photography is a
talent. And I’m wondering if she knows a
secret or two about circles that might be yet
undiscovered?
I think what grabbed my attention first about
Emily’s work was something I can only describe
as its “paper-bility”. When I met Emily’s work,
I immediately thought, “My gosh, that is exactly
something I’d do with paper.” I do not, in any
way, shape or form believe the only force behind
a digital scrapbooker’s work should be to mirror
a paper scrapbook page. There is just way too
much you can do with digital that you can’t with
paper. However, when digital does look paper, it
sure does have its own magic. And it should be
extremely proud of being digital art.
It’s more, though, than just what Emily does
with a digital page. It’s not just the color,
kit and photograph. It’s what she does after
she picks the color, kit and photograph. Look
closely at her “topping off” detail, how she
layers and layers, and then layers some more.
Depth and dimension are such eye-catchers in her
digital work. When you meet Emily’s work, let
the smile bring you in, but leave time for your
eye to wander.
Congratulations, Emily (and your lovely family!)
on being discovered this month. It was truly our
pleasure to have you on board this month, we
wish you great things!

Design note: Sometimes
when I am doing a digital page, I just don't
have what I need in the size I need. I
loved the felt border from American Crafts
so I scanned it and extracted it in CS2. I
was able to resize it and position it
without being afraid of "messing up". What
a great way to to get more mileage out of my
scrap supplies!!

Even Angels Need Baths by Emily C. Kleinman.
Supplies:
Paper, frame by Cori Gammon (Scrap
Artist),
felt: American Crafts (scanned into CS2 and
extracted), Stitching by Jackie Eckles
(Little Dreamer Designs), Lindsay Jane
(Scrapbook Bytes), Label by Corina Neilsen
(Funky Playground Designs), PhotoShop
actions: Urban Acid (atncentral), Font:
Teletype, downloaded from the internet.
Editor’s Note:
Go hybrid! (Or is that reverse hybrid?)
Emily shows us that her paper supply can
easily contribute to her digital supply.
Just remember to give credit where credit is
due, to all paper and digital supplies.

Swing! by Emily C. Kleinman. Supplies:
Paper from Flight of Fancy collaboration kit
(Scrap Artist), Tree, alpha by Cori Gammon (Scrap
Artist),
Frame from Miss Mint (Peppermint Creative), Tab
by Amber Clegg (Scrap
Artist),
Brushes: Rhonna Farrar; journaling mat (Shabby
Princess).
Editor’s Note:
Something missing from your digital layout?
Don’t forget to check out your brushes and
actions folder. You can easily make a tree like
this with colors, brushes and actions.
Design notes:
I love the whimsy the sweet tree adds! I wasn't
quite sure what I was going to do with the tree
so I just started playing around with it. I
love how it turned out! |
Pure Joy by Emily C. Kleinman. Supplies:
Papers, swirls from Flight of Fancy
collaboration kit (Scrap
Artist),
Alpha by Michelle Godin (Scrapbook Graphics),
Photo corners (Shabby Princess), Font: Times
(downloaded from the internet).
Editor’s Note:
It’s a color thing. For a photograph that
naturally lacks a variety of color (including
black and white and sepia tones), add your own
color combinations by using lots of color –
coordinating or not.
Design notes:
Sometimes it is so fun to open all my digital
files and see what I have. Nothing in this
layout "matches" at all, but it all works. Part
of the fun (okay, ALL of the fun) is just
playing with all the stuff you have! |
 |

Editor's note:
Be aware of your angles! Straight on is
nice, profiles add emotion, but if it makes
you giggle, make it the center of your next
picture. Konrad’s beautiful baby legs are
best photographed from above!

Journaling:
"Every time Rad and I go for a stroll in the

like this the whole time we are out. I love
looking down and seeing his cute chubbers.

I
am originally from Prescott, AZ where I was born
and raised. I met my husband Brian, when I was
16 and we have been together ever since. I got
my BS in Microbiology from Arizona State
University and I worked in Type I Diabetes
research for a few years until I had little
Konrad and became a stay-home mom. I now live in
Denver, CO where my husband is finishing up
Dental School.
I started dabbling in digital scrapbooking about
two years ago when my mom was taking a CS2 class
at the community college. She thought I would
love it, and she was right on! I really got
into it a year ago, right after I had Konrad.
It was the perfect creative outlet for a new
mommy, without the mess, which is always a good
thing. It is so much fun to finish a page and be
able to send it to Grammy and Grandpy or upload
it to my blog (www.brianandemilykleinman.blogspot.com)
immediately!
Other than scrapbooking, I enjoy running
(Colorado has the BEST trails!), riding my pink
Specialized bicycle, and sewing. I love doing
anything creative and I have so many ideas in my
head that I am afraid it might explode! Thanks
to ScrapStreet for recognizing me! What an
honor! |
