Happy New Year! Have you made your New Year’s
resolutions? Mine are to lead a healthier
lifestyle, gain better financial security and to
get caught up on my scrapbooking. This month’s
featured designer is going to help with that.
Dani Mogstad is one of my fellow night owls,
“…up until the wee hours of the morning
scrapping or designing the night away.” Wonder
if her loved one had to pry her away from the
computer to steal that New Year’s kiss?
Dani began scrapbooking approximately four years
ago. After the birth of her daughter she
finally had pictures that she wanted to do
something with. Her friends were scrapbooking
and she enjoyed the social atmosphere that came
with it. It wasn’t long before she was hooked.
Like so many of us she wants to preserve the
family memories for future generations It’s
important that her daughter knows “what her
childhood was like and how much she was loved
long after I am gone.” She also uses
scrapbooking as a creative outlet and for the
therapeutic value in “creating something
beautiful right before your eyes!”
This once loyal-to-paper scrapper swore she
would never do digital scrapbooking. With years
of Photoshop experience it seemed a natural
fit. Sure enough, after only a couple of
layouts Dani was ready to pack up her paper
supplies and never look back. She didn’t, of
course. The hybrid mini albums and other items
she creates by using digital and paper products
together results in amazing gifts for loved
ones.

Editor's
note: This
is one of Dani’s favorite layouts. She
says, “I love the story and the memory it
captures for me. I know it will be a page I
will treasure for years to come.”

Gina Cabrera; Alpha: Glitter Alpha by Jen
Wilson; Fonts: Windsong, Times and Times
Again; Misc: Artistry Circles by Fee
Jardine, Wings by Joann Brisbois, Alpha
Links by Catrine, Brushes by Meredith
Fenwick.
Journaling:
Lexi, I just couldn’t get
over how sweet you were as you explored our
snow frosted backyard. Even though it was
barely a dusting I could tell to you it was
pure magic. You excitedly pointed out the
footprints you made in the snow and asked,
“Mom is this where the snow angels walked?”
Here is the proof my sweet girl, I
definitely think you are right!
Dani began designing in the summer of 2005.
Again, Dani was saying never when it came to
designing because she enjoyed scrapping so
much. One day she decided to “give it a
try.” The rest became history. In
September of that same year she opened her
own shop! “What a wild ride it has been.”
Her inspiration comes from everywhere:
color, season, nature, vintage images and
fabrics, even her own photos. Life itself
is an inspiration and she is always looking
for ways to incorporate those everyday
experiences into her designs. For example,
her favorite kit, Saturday Market, is
inspired by the feeling one gets from a
visit to a flea market. She started working
with her favorite colors then mixed in a
variety of prints and embellishments. The
colors of this kit are why it’s still her
favorite.

Editor's note:
This min album by Dani using
her Saturday Market digital kit is a
terrific example of we can print digital
“papers” to use in paper scrapping resulting
in a beautiful hybrid project.

Love Album by Dani Mogstad.
Supplies:
Kit: Saturday Market by
design by dani; Book: Maya Road Layered Mini
Book; Misc: flowers by Prima, various
ribbons by May Arts.
Dani’s latest kit is called "Woodland
Winter" and was inspired by some photos of a
friend’s little boys and the Pacific
Northwest where she lives. It has a crisp
feel with masculine colors, including the
beautiful green she sees all year long, and
it is mixed with natural elements. She
ended up with a wonderful kit that has a
homey, Northwestern winter feel.

This is just one of the 2-3 kits she creates
in a month, although there are months where
inspiration leaves her barely completing one
kit. Her creative juices may have her
scrapping more one month and designing more
the next. When she’s got the scrapping bug
other designers she turns to are her fellow
Sweet Shoppe designers, Shabby Miss Jenn
Designs, Gina Cabrera at Digital Design
Essentials, Shabby Princess, and Holly
Designs. She does make note that “there are
so many more talented designers though!”
Dani
has been married to her best friend for
seven wonderful years. They have a four
year old daughter, Lexi, who is our pride
and joy and Dani’s favorite source of
inspiration! She loves spending time with
her family and she is a huge photography
enthusiast. Again, she says never when she
swears it won’t be more than “just a
hobby!” When she’s not burning the midnight
oil scrapping or designing you can find her
curled up with a good book.
