When I was younger, I loved to build with Legos.
I could spend hours building cities for my
little Lego people to live and play in. It is
no wonder that I still love any type of blocks
to this day. There is something about clean
lines and even spacing that makes me feel
inspired. Maybe it’s the fact that everything
is even and there is no chaos (my husband would
say that is the control-freak side of me coming
out). Whatever the reason is, it is also
wonderful tool to use in scrapbooking; hybrid or
traditional! This month’s Café Creation is
inspired by building blocks! I have created a
block of four squares with included journaling
space for you to use! (Detailed instructions on how to use these templates can be found on our
forums in the Hybrid section.)
Below are three examples of how I used this
photo block on a range of different media.
Remember, if you would like to be a part of the
Café Creation Network, download the photo block
(CLICK HERE) and send in your work to
submissions@scrapstreet.com! You never know,
you may be just be asked to design with the next
creation for a future article!

Design note: Here
I used the photo block as a mask and clipped
pieces of digital paper to it. I printed
off two sets of the block so that I could
create dimension for the card. I used
Popdots below each top square, so that if
you look at it from the side you see the
same design under the top layer instead of
just white.

Happy Birthday 2 U! (card) by Brianne Nevill.
Digital Supplies: Paper, Cupcake from
Party Perfect by Dora’s Designs (Scrapstreet.com),
Supplies: Cardstock: Die Cuts With A
View, Paper Studio, Stickers: Pink Paislee,
Punch: EK Success.

Design note:
Here I used the photo blockto create a photo
collage with a quote. After printing, I
used Mod Podge to decoupage the entire thing
onto a wooden wall piece I had laying
around. To give it a little more dimension,
I added the center button after applying the
Mod Podge. |

Color of Love (wall décor) by Brianne Nevill.
Digital

Supplies: Cardstock: Staples
Photo Supreme Double-sided Matte Paper,
Wooden Board: Art, Inc., Adhesive: Mod Podge,

Other: button, thread.
Journaling: In our life, there is single color, as on an
artist’s palette, which provides the meaning
of life and art. It is the color of love.

Design note:
Here I used the photo block to create a
great base for my layout. Using the
included journaling strips, I was able to
put the story behind my layout without
having to create a space for a separate
journaling block.

Cookie Joy by Brianne Nevill. Supplies:
Paper: American Crafts, Cardstock:
Staples, Stickers: American Crafts, Brads:
Paper Studio, Ribbon: Maya Road, ribbonFX,
Ink: Clearsnap, Adhesive: Scotch, Font:
Papyrus.
Journaling: For your 3rd birthday, Grandma and
Grandpa Nevill sent you a Gingerbread Man
cookie decorating kit. I guess that’s what
you get when your birthday is so close to
Christmas. At first you didn’t know what to
expect from the box, but once I opened it
and you saw all of the bags of candy, you
were off without any direction at all. Mmmm.
