Michelle McClung

Two years ago, I accidentally found ScrapStreet after reading a scrap bio of someone who had been published in the e-zine.  I was curious, so I went to look, fell in love, and never left!  It’s such a comfortable and fun place, with a really great community of people.  I value the friendships that I have made here and even have met some of the girls.  I also get a lot of scrapping support - inspiration, challenges, and encouragement - especially when MoJo is on vacation and I need it the most!

Sketches can really do wonders for jump starting your creativity.  It’s one of the fun ways to challenge yourself to get scrapping.  The following sketch was made by Dora Phillips for one of the 12 Days of Christmas challenges.  It’s created as a simple sketch to let everyone use their own vision to create something with it.

Check our ScrapStreet calendar to see if there are any fun scrapping games that you can join in!

Editor's note: What will you use the square grid for? Pictures, paper squares, or elements would all work well in this design.

Sketch by Dora Phillips.

Design notes: In order to liven up the squares, I placed rub-ons on them. I also placed some of the rub-ons on another piece of cardstock, cut them out, and then raised them with pop dots in order to give the layout some depth.

Spring Program by Diana Brodeur.  Supplies: Paper: Scenic Route, Pink Paislee, BasicGrey, Fancy Pants,  Letters: Prima,  Rub-ons: Love Elsie, Flowers: Prima, Brads: Heidi Swapp,  Date tag: Elle's Studio, Scallop Punch: Paper Studio,  Gem: Marcella,  Pens: Sakura, Zig.

Journaling:  The teachers had the kids sing song to the parents. You did such a good job and had a fun time too.

Design notes: When suffering from "scrapper's block" I turn to sketches and templates for help.  I had this series of photos and had an idea of how I wanted to use them but just couldn't make it happen.  Once I saw this sketch on Scrapstreet I knew it would be perfect for these photos.  Sketches and templates are a great way to help me get layouts done so I don't fall too far behind.

O Holy Night by Jenn Hennegan.  Supplies: Ribbon: Amanda Thorderson (Digitals),  Font: St Nicholas.

Journaling:  Since I was a little girl I have always been fascinated by the ornaments on the Christmas tree at Mom's church, Holy Cross, in Racine, WI. They are all handmade by the ladies of the church. Many of those ladies are no longer with us. But, each and every Christmas their faith and love shines through for all to see.

Design notes: I wanted to play with the peek-a-boo aspect of the picture of my son, so I layered the blocks over the photo for perfect pieces.  Digital cuts are such a joy to make!

Peek by Dora Phillips.  Supplies: Digital Kit is Rowdy Rex by VFT for Live Out Loud Scraps.
