In The Pits with Katey Green

Well, that was silly of me wasn’t it? Volunteering for being in this spot for the February magazine! I think I had in mind that as I had assigned myself the free kit to create for this issue of the magazine I might as well reveal all (verbally speaking) and then discovered I had no idea what to write!
I have been here at ScrapStreet since early spring in 2006, wondering to myself what this bunch of mostly paper scrappers would think of a totally digi gal? One thing led to another and I joined the ScrapStreet design team, then became a digi store designer, following that with becoming a member of our Pit Crew for the magazine. Today I am the Digital Team Leader and liaise with all our ScrapStreet designers, ensuring Quality Assurance is carried out on our digi products, not to mention assigning tasks to the Creative Artist Team who do those fabulous layouts in Pixel Place and our CAT gallery. Then there is the magazine, where I rack my brains for something informative, funny or creative to say in my columns (Pixel Place and Digital Dashboard, and occasionally Creation Station).
So is that it, I hear you ask? Hmm what else then? Ahhh, yes scrapping!
I confess to being in awe of those of you who are hybrid or paper scrappers. I keep saying I will try a little paper project, but somehow it never seems to happen. I just can’t imagine cutting up a beautiful paper! I hoard things you see, even digital scrapping kits. Just imagine sitting there with sheets and sheets of real paper, rub-ons, ink and ribbons and being unable to bring yourself to use them? Not so with digital kits, a click of the mouse undoes something I don’t like, my papers remain whole even after I have cut and arranged them on my layout. I can reuse items again and again, which satisfies the hoarder in me as well as the scrapper.
With designing digital products, I don’t scrap as often as I would like, but I get involved with various challenges that allow me to step out of my comfort zone. Currently I am participating with a fellow ScrapStreet member in the Amazing Digi Scrap Race. This is in its fourth season and the second time I have taken part. I love (and sometimes hate) the challenges, but scrapping with a partner and often having to collaborate on a layout whilst meeting the deadlines all serves to bring out my creative streak. This month the Mafia Scrap is beginning on ScrapStreet and I am hooked up with two paper scrappers to start with so my scrapping life is going to be hectic, challenging and fun.
I have found that I scrap and design best when I am under pressure, whether through a challenge or a deadline. So this year I have challenged myself to do more journaling on my layouts. Journaling is not something I do much of at all so I have come up with an easy way of doing it. I call them Tell Me Abouts. These can be printed out and written on by hand and attached to your layouts as a tag for you hybrid scrappers or you can use them digitally. Just enough space to fill in your details as either a 10 point list or free form.

You can get them some of them
in our store (here) for free, to use and enjoy. Just a little bit of scrap from me to you.
