4 the Love of Chocolate

   Lori Burdeshaw

What other food do you know of that can be so soothing and so exhilarating all at the same time? It truly is magical.

Some fun facts about chocolate:

1. The scientific name of the cacao tree, Theobroma, means “food of the gods.” (see, I told you it was heavenly!)

2. Americans consume nearly half of the world’s chocolate supply, about 12 pounds a year per person, and spend about $13 billion a year on chocolate.

3. While chocolate does contain caffeine, it’s not as much as most people think. You would have to eat over a dozen Hershey bars to get the amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee.

4. Chocolate was issued to soldiers in the first world war as a form of nourishment.

5. Although we tend to think of chocolate as a solid, it was consumed in liquid form for 90% of its history.

6. More than 2000 years ago, Mayans used cocoa beans as a form of currency. They only ground them into cocoa when the beans were worn out.

7. Chocolate’s melting point is just below your body temperature, so it melts in your mouth. Melting chocolate in your mouth raises brain activity and heart rate more intensely than passionate kissing, and lasts four times longer!

Do you want some chocolate now? I know I sure do. But here is a challenge for you as you reach for that cup of cocoa or your next Hershey bar. If you love it as much as I do, then scrap about it. It’s part of who you are. Happy snacking... errr, I mean scrapping!

Editor notes: I loved how Heather chose a pink and blue color palette for chocolate, reminding us that it does not always have to be about the yummy brown.

Ice Cream Sandwiches by Heather Bares.  Supplies: Paper: Sassafrass Lass, Stamps: Fancy Pants, Stickers: American Crafts, Ink: Tsukineko, Punch: EK Success.

Design notes: I stitched along the die cut paper line, then added a few stitches to the picture itself as well as the corners of the green pattern paper for an extra touch. Stitching on my projects is my favorite thing to do, it's cheap and looks fantastic on the finished project.

Oh, Fudge! By Chrys Rose.  Supplies: Paper: Jenni Bowlin, Love Elsie,  Stickers: American Crafts,  Jewels: My Mind’s Eye.

Journaling: “Oh come the holidays and my favorite treat is served everywhere! I seriously have a major weakness for fudge.”

Design notes: Penny used glitter to cover the chipboard arrow. She also chose to use the popular internet symbol (<3) for “love” as a way to record current trends.

He [Hearts] Chocolate by Penny Brellenthin.  Supplies: Paper: Scarlet Lime, Punch: EK Success,  Alphabet: ScrapWorks, Label Sticker: Luxe, Felt Alpha, American Crafts, Glitter: PK Glitz, Adhesive: Ad Tech, Other: cardstock, chipboard arrow, ric rac.

Journaling: You have a big sweet tooth and you LOVE chocolate!
