Crossroads Cafe

Brianne Nevill

I love to scrapbook.  I also love to shop.  The second is not always compatible with my very tight budget.  As a hybrid scrapbooker, we have it made!  Repeat my newly-made manta with me: “Reduce.  Reuse.  Recycle your MONEY!”

In 2009, one of my major goals is to cut down significantly on the amount I spend on materials.  Oh, please do not misunderstand; I am a shop-a-holic so this will be tough on me (and my husband as I complain).  I began a little adventure last month to see exactly how much I could save by using digital kits instead of 100% paper products and here are my results:

Digital Kit costs: $3.00

Paper, misc. embellishments, tools, adhesive, etc. (all on hand): $ Free

Total: $3.00

Three dollars!!!  Can you believe it?  All of the projects below were created with that $3.00!  And by borrowing templates or creating your own, you save even more!  There are SO many available digital kits out there right now that you could spend a VERY small amount and scrap forever!  Our very own store has a plethora of available kits, by some very talented designers, for your immediate use .   This month, your free download will be a candy box template that I created for your Valentine gift-giving purposes, or for any other reason at all.  Cut a window into it and place some plastic behind it, use it to make a box of playing cards, or just fill it with some special treats for your loved ones; the possibilities for its use are endless!  You can find the template here (Free Template download).

Happy Valentine’s Day from your devoted Hybrid Heroine, Brianne!

Design notes: I used two different shades of the digital paper to create my heart shapes at the top of the journaling and also as the background to the photo.  I printed off two sets of the hearts and used pop-dots to create dimension on a relatively simple layout.

Journaling: Sometimes your nearness takes my breath away, and all the things I want to say can find no voice.  Then, in silence, I can only hope my eyes will speak my heart. –Robert Sexton

Design notes: I used one of the beautiful shades of red for the background to my quote. By resizing my photo and paper to the exact same size, I almost created my entire card digitally.  To bring in my love for material products, I separated the two with a piece of ribbon and added a nice bow for decoration.

Design notes: I created the box with the candy box template available for free download.  Instead of filling it with candy, I created a small mini-album of the boys in my life (husband, son, and cat).  I used the digital paper for the front of the box as well as the background to all the photos.

Remember, if you would like to be a part of the Café Creation Network, download any of the templates, create something, and send in your work to submissions@scrapstreet.com!  You never know, you may just be asked to design with the next template for a future article!
