The Hands Have It

Question is, what exactly is it that the hands have? Let’s start with some facts, courtesy of Wikipedia: The hands (med./lat.: manus, pl. manūs) are the two intricate, prehensile, multi-fingered body parts normally located at the end of each arm of a human or other primate. They are the chief organs for physically manipulating the environment, used for both gross motor skills (such as grasping a large object) and fine motor skills (such as picking up a small pebble). The fingertips contain some of the densest areas of nerve endings on the body, are the richest source of tactile feedback, and have the greatest positioning capability of the body; thus the sense of touch is intimately associated with hands. Like other paired organs (eyes, ears, legs), each hand is dominantly controlled by the opposing brain hemisphere, and thus handedness, or preferred hand choice for single-handed activities such as writing with a pen, reflects a significant individual trait.
Key words are fingers, motor skills and sense of touch. Did you ever realize just how much one does with the fingers? They are sort of a gateway, a portal if you will, from the outside world into the body. Take a look at the first three layouts. They all encase the sense of touch in a day of eminent importance: a day, a contact with hands, that essentially connects two worlds, two lives into one.

Design notes: I tried to use some bright colors in the papers to pop against the black and white photo.

Design notes: I tore the edges of the red paper for border. Then, glued the photo on a piece of white tulle fabric and glued it on the red border. I attached the ribbons vertically and horizontally on to the base page and tied the three bows to accent the border. I added flowers with strips of white ribbon and tulle fabric on the upper left hand side of the photo. Then, I glued the decorative edge of the computer-typed vellum journaling on the lower right side of the photo. Finally, I attached sticker letters, entitled "With These Rings".
