Digital Discovery

Lindsey Krauss

We’re taking Digital overseas, and get ready – it’s a trip! Meet digital artist Biancka! Biancka was discovered via a recommendation from a fellow scrapper, but was chosen for one of my current favorite digital trends: simply stated. With small photographs, bunched embellishments, muted colors and simple titles, all is done in a very small surface area.

I absolutely adore the slightly shaped and small photograph. I just love the “pile-on” effect of embellishments. I can’t take my eyes off the monochromatic schemes. I certainly couldn’t do without the simply stated titles – if you can even find them! Sometimes scrapbooking really just is about the art and the hobby – having fun choosing supplies, deciding on placement and just decorating a photograph. And that’s it. No more. Period.

Biancka easily takes the edge off and provides a sweet, serene scene around her photos, playing with color shades, layers and anything else she can find in her digital embellishment jars. Look carefully – you won’t want to miss a “thing” on these pages.

Congratulations, Biancka, on your discovery. We wish you more success and fun with scrapbooking art!

Design notes: I wanted to use the heart shaped ribbon as a frame to express my love for my son. I love element clusters so I used as many elements from the kit as I could to embellish the frame.

Somebody to Love by Biancka. Digital supplies: Somebody to Love by Fanette Designs.

Journaling: somebody to love

Depeche Mode by Biancka. Digital supplies: In Your Arms by MissK Designs.

Editor’s note: Just like in traditional paper scrapping, you can easily add dimension and interest with pops of color and shadows.

Design notes: I love monotone layouts but with this one I had to use a little bit of color. When I added the 'depeche mode' logo I knew I had to recolor one of the ribbons in the 'In Your Arms' kit to orange and I just love how it turned out.

Skate by Biancka. Digital supplies: In Heaven by Seni Designs, Overlays by Danielle's Worn Photo Overlays 2.

Editor's note: If you’re going to go monochromatic, you might as well really go! Using multiple tones, shades and layers create dimension and carry the eye through your design

Design notes: I ended up framing one photo several times with different elements. I also wanted to give this layout a bit of a grungy look because of the place the photo was taken (skate park, too bad you can’t see the graffiti in the photo) and I got that look with the worn overlay and the drip of water paint.

Design notes: I think it's clear that I like white space layouts. This is yet another one where I wanted to stretch out the cluster of elements. I decided to also make a peek-a-boo cluster of elements behind the worn paper. The worn paper gives it a little extra touch because it is has a drawing in it which almost looks like an element itself.

Me! by Biancka. Digital supplies: Winter Poetry by Natali Designs, Overlays: Playing with Overlays Vol. 1 by Natali Designs, Studio Manu.

Editor’s note: Basic is beautiful. With a charming photo, adding a drip of embellishment down the side keeps the focus on, well, you!

I am a 35yr old SAHM from The Netherlands. I am married to the sweetest guy in the world and we have one son, Jasper, who is 5 years old. I've been scrapping for a few years now (I think it will be three years in November) and still love it. The main subject of my layouts is my dear son who is giving me grief with photos these days; he hates having his photo taken at this moment. I hope it's a phase. I don't design kits but I have started to offer freebie Quick Pages on my blog with permission of the designers. I love sharing my layouts with others and I can only hope they enjoy them as much as I do.
