You're the One

You're the one, my one and only, once in a lifetime ... these are only some of the common catch phrases using the word “one”. You know when you have found the right one, and it can totally be enough all on its own. I could be talking about love, a great pair of shoes or even Pepsi, but what I have in mind involves one perfect word. More specifically, it is that one word that makes a powerful title in scrapbooking and inspires the creation of a beautiful layout, complete with journaling, of course! This month, I challenge you to discover one word, ponder its meaning and let it take hold.

Business owners frequently look for creative and motivating ways to increase productivity and innovation within their companies. One technique that is used involves the presentation of a random word to their staff members. Personnel are challenged to use that word through a brainstorming process, a technique meant to make them think outside of the box. The belief is that free thinking will lead to new and wonderful ideas. Sounds easy enough, right?

The first step is to randomly choose a word. There are numerous websites that automatically conjure up random words for you! Looking for more fun? Ask a family member to open up the dictionary and point. That is your word. Each of the ladies below created their awesome layouts by focusing on one word. They made sure to include journaling that expands upon the word, providing insight and explanation.

Passionate by Jennifer Davis

Supplies: Paper: Pebbles, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Stickers: Heidi Grace Designs, Alphabet: Carolée's Creations, American Crafts, Tag: American Crafts, Photo Corners: Making Memories, Other: embroidery floss, sewing machine.

Design Notes: My word was chosen from opening up the dictionary and landing my finger on a random word.

Journaling: Whatever it is that you are involved in or playing, one thing’s for sure … you are passionate about it! You are a passionate singer, dancer, ball-player, and, yes, music-maker. Here you are at Grandpa Keith’s playing away on some bells. The happiest little girl in the world and passionate all the way.

Blessed by Melissa Elsner

Supplies: Paper: We R Memory Keepers, Flowers, Buttons, Bling: Bo Bunny Press, Trim, Pin: Fancy Pants Designs, Felt: Doodlebug Design, Chipboard Alphabet: American Crafts, Tool: Sihouette SD.

Design Notes: I used my Silhouette SD to cut out the flourish, scallop circle and circle die cuts. I also wanted to use a lot of white space and use bright colors to help put the focus on the black and white photo. To draw it all together, the journaling was put around the frame of the layout.

Journaling: I am one blessed chica! The friendships God has given me, such as Karri and Danielle, are relationships I could have only dreamed of as a child. To have other humans love me and accept me is a sweet, sweet thing! Karri and Danielle know all about me and still enjoy being with me. Yep. Blessed is a good word to describe how I feel!

Time by April Yap

Supplies: Paper: American Crafts, Making Memories, Sassafras Lass, Autumn Leaves, My Mind's Eye, Chipboard: Cosmo Cricket, Alphabet: American Crafts, Mini Alphabet: Jenni Bowlin Studio, Overlays: My Little Shoebox, Creative Imaginations, Journaling Spots: Cosmo Cricket, Creative Imaginations, Stickers: 7Gypsies, Brads: Bo Bunny Press, Making Memories, Pearls: Prima Marketing.

Design Notes: I picked up the word "time" randomly from the challenge site "One Little Word", although the site had closed. That inspired me to record my "couple time" with my DH.

Journaling: We spent 6 days in Taipei, just the two of us. This was the very 1st time for us. Our "couple times" were usually groceries-shopping or short breakfast while the kids slept in. This little get-away is a time that I'll always remember. Note: Spending some quiet time in the cafe before leaving for the airport.
