Digital Discovery

  Lindsey Krauss

Come meet our next digital discovery! Meet Victoria Warren-Mears, our next designer in the spotlight! You will just love Victoria’s technical aspect to digital scrapbooking. I say ‘technical’ pertaining not just to design, but to her actual techniques as well!! Victoria obviously puts a lot of time and technique (and thought!) into her pages. Whether is the organized collage effect, picture treatment, design with size, or personally-created embellishments, Victoria makes each page special in its own way. Congratulations, Victoria! We love your work!

Design notes: I took photographs in my garden throughout an entire season. At the end of the season, I selected the best shots and edited them in Photoshop to ensure the foliage was presented at its best. This was a great way for me to do a meaningful non-people layout of something that is important to me.

Journaling: This is where I find my joy and happiness.

We Believe by Victoria Warren-Mears. Supplies: PhotoShop Elements 5.0 (Adobe).

Journaling: The Journaling is the Nicene Creed: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Design note: This entire layout was done in PSE. The picture of the boy was cut from a 4 x 6 photo. The frame was cut using the "cookie cutter" circle tool and cutting another landscape photograph from the same date and location.

Victoria by Victoria Warren-Mears. Supplies: PhotoShop Elements 5.0 (Adobe), True Love Digital Elements and paper: Scrapbook.com.

Journaling: Victoria Of Latin Origin; Meaning "Victory" I am not named after anyone in my family. Since my dad was from England, everyone assumed I was named after Queen Victoria. My mom and dad just liked the name. My middle name, Ann, is a long family tradition on my dad's side. My grandma was Margaret Ann, as was my great grandmother. Just the fact that I am here is a victory. I weighed just 3 lbs. 8 oz when I was born. My mom had tried for a baby for 10 years. I was a small victory.

Design note:  To achieve the swirled photo in the corner, I converted a self portrait to a pencil drawing. In Photoshop Elements, I used the cookie cutter feature to cut a swirl of the edited black and white photo. I then copied it to the scrapbook page. Following placement of all elements, a purple tint was applied to the layout. Additionally the final journaling was added following merging of the previous layers.

Journaling: Margaret Ann (Banks) I'Anson, Preston, Lancashire, England.

About the designer:

Victoria Warren-Mears is trained as a scientist but avidly pursues paper arts and crafts in her spare time. My inspiration comes from my love of nature, my family and my spiritual beliefs. I grew up in Washington State, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Puget Sound, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, and Evergreen Forests. Now I live in Southeast Portland, Oregon. I am surrounded by an outdoor environment of trees, roses and wide-open sky, lovingly designed by my husband Jim. These are my inspirations. While a scientist by formal training, I sincerely value the creative and home arts. I learned to sew as a child and later moved into paper arts and jewelry arts.
