Ah, September brings with it many things: a yearning for learning, a dream of discovery, and a wish for a longer summer. While we share an excitement about back to school, we also share a sadness at seeing another summer fly by.

The inspiration piece this month is taken from the Corning Museum of Glass. Truly awesome colors, textures, and shapes make for some very unexpected inspiration. While touring the museum two years ago, I was struck by the wealth of inspiration it offered. Not just for lovers of glass and art, but for me, the simple scrapbooker. I was struck by inspiration from every angle, so this was a natural source of inspiration for this column. I am thrilled to be able to share several wonderful layouts that have all been inspired by CMOG in one way or another.
In our first layout, Kristene’s son was the one struck by our inspiration piece. And his work, in turn, inspired Kristene to capture the story. Amber picked up on the colors of the inspiration piece and “free-style” feel overall. And Kim, well she was moved by the waves and created a layout commemorating a favorite science center!

Inspired by Kristene Boston.
Supplies:
Paper: Fancy Pants, Letters: Basic Grey, Cardstock: Bazzill, Paint: Anita’s Acrylic, Tattered Angels.
Journaling:
“Hey, Mommy what are you
doing?” “I’m looking at this picture trying
to get inspiration.” “Why?” “A friend wants
to see what I would make.” “What are you
going to make?” “I don’t know. It’s really
pretty, but I’m just not inspired.” “I like
it too.” “I’m sure something will come to
me.” After a wonderful date night … came
home to find Evan had made … I saw that the
inspiration piece was at work.
Editor’s
note:
I love how Kristene captured the conversation between
her and her son surrounding the inspiration piece. And then went on to use his artwork for her layout.

Design note:
I was originally inspired by the colors in the glass pieces, the varying blues, yellow, and magentas, and I wanted to work with those colors. I also really liked the waved features in the bowls, flowers and the green swirly things, and tried to think how to incorporate those. However, in the end I ended up going with a doodle-based paper, and the swirly Grungeboard for those elements, since the glass is done more freestyle, so are the doodles on the paper. |

My Love by Amber Bell. Supplies:
Paper: Fancy Pants, Alpha: Basic Grey, Grungeboard: Tim Holtz ,
Fasteners: Scrapworks, Other: glitter pen.

Design note:
For inspiration, I used the waves from the glass/bowls and cut waves into the patterned paper. I used the reds/blues, arranged my title similarly to the CMOG block and tried to keep somewhat of a blocked look to the page as the photos are blocked in the inspiration piece.
