Pet Park

Michelle Boeckermann

The name game! We play this every time a new pet comes into our lives. What makes a good name for our pets? How do we come to find that perfect name that represents both the personality of the animal and satisfies our ability to show off our own attitude?  I have to say that I often name my pets with this thought behind it, “Can I call that name and be proud?” When we first brought home my daughter's dog, he was so cute, we started to call him Yoda. YODA… HERE YODA… nope, that one did not stick, and the name Tucker came to mind. This rolled off the tongue much easier for us than Yoda and didn’t come with a lesson in humility.

I was searching for the top pet names on the web and found that many of us use names that have come to be sort of iconic in the American culture. Spot, Buddy, Fido, Patches, all names at the top of the web lists as common names.  So what’s your poison when it comes to finding that perfect name? Are you one that loves music and looks for a verse, or name in a song, or singer? Maybe you want your pet's name to reflect your love of books, authors, movies, places, or maybe you want to call your new dog your husband's old girlfriend? Whatever path you follow to name that pet, it’s a very personal choice and something we live with for (hopefully) a long time. So choose wisely and take your time.

Creative names make for wonderful scrapbooking titles! Take a peek at these cute layouts that show a true passion for finding that perfect name or nickname.  I loved each of these and found them true and right on target when it came to the animals!

Journaling:  When we got our little min pin three years ago, we could not decide on a name.  Buddy, Bodacious and Rambo were the top three choices.  We gave him a "middle" name of Scott like his dad and little brother.  Kleinman was just the cherry on top!  Sidenote:  this is his actual registered name!  It is quite a name for such a small doggie!

Design note:

I wanted the photo of my best friend to really be the focus of this layout. I added some additional details to the flowers and circles I cut out with the gel pens (both black and white) and black ink.

Stinkbug by Lynda Lindley. Supplies: Paper: Dream Street, Cardstock: Bazzill, Photo Corners: Heidi Swapp, Title, Circles, Flowers: Circut, Gel Pen: Sakura, Ink: Clearsnap.

Design note:

With the layout being primarily black and white, I wanted to add a touch of color with the orange.  With a bit of orange patterned paper behind the photo, and also the orange thread that I used to add dimension around the layout, makes it pop.

Vader by Chrys Rose. Supplies: Paper, Buttons: Boxer Scrapbooks, Cardstock: Bazzill, Gaffer Tape: 7 Gypsies, Stickers: Scenic Route, Sheer Journaling spot: Maya Road.

Journaling: Your name came very easy to us. You were all black, a tiny body and a large head. Vader was perfect.
