Yes, September, really!! I am just so proud to introduce the Discovery for this month. A new friend of mine, Sherry Mendoza just bounces right through the screen! I personally think Sherry might just be the mini-album queen of the land down under, but you’ll have to search and discover that for yourself!
I love that Sherry tried to describe her style; personally, I think her style is every style and goes with each flow, so to speak. You sure can count on a few things, though: (1) there is some element of freedom on all of her projects. I don’t know how to explain it, but Sherry scraps and designs so freely and somehow that becomes an integral part of her overall design. (2)
Her pages and projects are finished edge-to-edge like a good wall-to-wall treatment. (3) When finished, her projects seem to have such a timeless quality to them that I’m sure they will be as precious today as they will be in many, many years.
I do invite you to go into Sherry’s world to see more of her designs. Some of my favorite projects of hers, especially mini-albums, aren’t even listed on this page. Congratulations, Sherry, we wish you well and much prosperity – can’t wait to see your mini-album on this article!

Design note:
To get that "vintage" look for your patterned paper, scrunch up your paper and then hand flatten, repeat this a few times. While it is scrunched, lightly sand it with a sanding block, then ink the edges in a distress ink.

I Want To by Sherry Mendoza. Supplies:
Paper: Basic Grey, Mesh, Chipboard bulrush: Twiddleybitz, Journaling sheets: Prima, Paint: Making Memories, Other:
raffia paper.
Journaling:
A little poem I wrote for this layout -
I want to take you out to the fields
where children play and let you run with the
wind in your hair on a beautiful summer's
day.
Design note: I think what makes this stand out is the mostly monochromatic colors and then that "splash" of red. |
Sherry's Tin of Secrets by Sherry
Mendoza. Supplies:
Paper, die cuts: Fancy Pants, Tin: Maya Road, Word stickers: 7 Gypsies,
Other: ribbons, buttons.
Journaling:
On a little booklet inside the first page is journaling about my thoughts on
"where have all the butterflies gone.”
Design note: Tins are a great place to keep little books to record your memories or thoughts, I have added some of that "home feel" to this one with the blanket stitching around the edges.

My Little Aussie American Boy by Sherry Mendoza. Supplies:
Paper: Reminisce, Creative Imaginations, Mail box with album, Rub-ons: Maya Road, Lace cardstock: KI Memories, Bling: Kaisercraft, Cardstock: Bazzill,
Paint: Making Memories, Doodling: Sherry’s personal design,
Other: ribbon.
Design notes:
Sanding the edges of the little album was made easier using the Basic Grey
precision file set; it has the perfect
shapes for getting into those difficult
areas.
Editor’s Note:
Sometimes it’s a little difficult to find a theme or design out of a blank
alterable. Try using pre-made shapes of
albums and alterable items to find a
starting point.

About the Designer

I live in Sydney, Australia happily married to my (American) Air Force man with 4 sometimes willing photographic subjects –oops- I mean gorgeous children.
I have been scrapping for over 10 years and it is my absolute passion, I am obsessed with it. I love to design and create anything from layouts to off the page; mini albums are one of my favorites especially for my kids.
My style is mostly simple and to the point, but I do love to do classic romantic and shabby chic styles also... really anything goes! If they make it, I will scrap it.
I have a great sense of humor and like to bring this to my pages sometimes. I am not afraid to scrap my family’s worst moments along with their best ones.
I teach and design for a couple of local stores, as well as being a member of a DT here in Australia; they use my work in their print advertising also.
I am just starting up my own
company
here selling coordinated
kits and also running a program called STL’s (Scrapbook Trading Layouts)
which I have been doing for a while and think it
would be great to get others involved, it is a
great way to make friends all over the world please feel free to come along and join in the fun!
You can find samples of my work at my blog.
