The Principles of Design – Rhythm
So how can you create rhythm on your next
scrapbooking page? You can do this for example
by
repeating a color, shape, texture, line, or
space. You can vary the size of objects, shapes,
or lines in sequence (small to large). You can
use a progression of colors from tints to shades
(e.g. light blue to dark blue), or you can shift
from one hue to a neighboring hue (e.g. yellow
to yellow-orange to orange to red-orange to
red). Whichever kind of rhythm you create, your
layout will be music to your eyes!

Design note:
To
create a sense of rhythm I printed of a
sequence of photos of my daughter running in
her race. I printed them off the same size
and then added them across the line of the
title.

Always Believe In Yourself by Beckie Dreyer. Supplies: Papers,
Alphabet, Buttons and Rub-ons: Rusty Pickle,
Ribbon: May Arts, Rhinestones: Kaiser
Scrapbooks, Pens: Zig, Other: paint.
|

Design note:
I
used sequins and flowers to depict rhythm on
my layout. I placed the sequins so they
produce the movement across the page and to
give the effect that one of the flowers has
blown away from the others.

Blue Eyes by Sharon Suchoronczak. Supplies: Paper: Daisy D’s,
Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Flowers:
Prima, Rub-ons: Kaiser Craft, Chipboard:
Heidi Swapp, Scrap FX, Paint: Making
Memories, Stamp: Stamp it, Ink: Tsukineko,
Other: sequins, lace, ribbon.

Design note:
I
have used rhythm on my layout in the
regularity of the photo placement and in the
sequence of the photo shots. The color and
patterns of the background paper help to
highlight the movement of the layout, by
breaking its rhythm. Another element I used
to set the layout's cadence is the top
photo, which also breaks the balance through
its distinguished color and its own
distinguished movement.
