Scrappin' Sports & More

  Dora Phillips

I remember when I started scrapping with one child who took a long nap and went to bed early.  Ahhh, the hours I would spend creating.  I scorned "premade" embellishments and would make my own.  By hand.  I thought nothing of spending an hour to create a special spot for my journaling.

Fast forward 7 years and I have 2 kids, no naps, and plenty of afterschool activities to keep me in the car more than at my scrap desk.  I have learned to weep with gratitude at the sight of displays of premade items to make my scrapping fast and fabulous.  My sketch book and I travel with the kids and when we make it home, we want to pull together pages with ease.

Scrappin Sports & More is a company that understands the fast-paced lives of busy moms and sends help.  They focus on sports and school with a hint of seasonal items, knowing that products geared for these topics can make a scrapper's life easier.

Design note:

I measured the inside size of the chipboard rectangle (chalkboard) and then measured in where I wanted my picture placed. With those dimensions, I created my journaling block in PSE 5.0. I used a play on words for my title (pre-school angst). My son is not quite of age for school yet, but begs me every morning to go with all his older buddies.

Pre-School Angst by Brianne Nevill Supplies: Paper: Scrappin' Sports & More, Cardstock: Die Cuts With a View, Stickers: Scrappin' Sports & More, Jenny Bowlin, Doodlebug, Chipboard: Fancy Pants, Basic Grey, Ink: Clearsnap, Adhesive: Helmar, Font: Penmanship Print.

Journaling: You want so bad to go to school and to be a big boy. You see all of the big kids at the bus stop in the morning and want to be out there with them. You recite your "ABC's" and "123's" to me everyday and proudly sing ALL of the songs you know by heart. "Daycare is NOT school, Momma" you will say to me as I drop you off at your sitter's house. I really do want you to go to school, little man, but I also want you to stay my baby forever. I love that you are so bright and yearn to learn, but at the same time, its hard for me to let go of the little boy that once let me rock him to sleep.

Design note:

My son is so excited to be starting kindergarten this fall! The Kindergarten papers by Scrappin' Sports and More were perfect for this little starting-school set. The blue paper actually has the word "kindergarten" printed repeatedly on it, and the bright primary colors are perfect for a 5-year-old.

Oh, and the crayon sticker was the exact right size to cover the glue bottle label - how much easier can it get?

Kindergarten Set by Janice Badger. Supplies: Paper: Scrappin' Sports & More, Stickers: Scrappin' Sports & More, Rub-ons: Fancy Pants, K & Company, Cosmo Cricket, Chipboard: Stampin' Up!, Tiles: Masterpiece Studios, Other: adhesive corkboard, Diamond Glaze (Judikins), crayon.

Design note:

Sometimes journaling can be difficult, so when I have a hard time journaling I will make a list of the important things and use that for my journaling.

Jackson the Second Grader by Jennifer Wuthrich Supplies: Paper: Bazzill, Scrappin' Sports & More, Cardstock Stickers: Scrappin' Sports and More, Brads: Queen and Company, Die Cut stars: Cuttlebug.

Journaling: Random Facts from 2nd grade: Teacher: Mrs. Plate Best Friend: Preston Bone. Lunch: Prefer hot lunch. Sports: Soccer and swimming. Favorite Subject: Math 2007-2008.

Design note:

Last year my son's teacher used a ruler as her hall pass. When I saw the school line of Scrappin' Sports & More, I immediately thought of an original hall pass and decided to alter a clothes pin I had sitting on my desk. My son will begin the third grade next week so I though that would be most fitting. I added a few fun embellishments and voila!: a quick and easy teacher gift.

Design note:

I loved the cute stickers from the school line of Scrappin' Sports papers. I mounted each one on cardstock, doodled around the edges, and added brads to make them pop. I also added brads to form a cute and colorful border!

The Right Choice? by Stacey Michaud. Supplies: Paper, Stickers: Scrappin' Sports & More, Brads, Button: Making Memories, Adhesive: Helmar, Pen: Sakura, Uniball, Letters: Target.

Journaling: So we made the decision to hold you out a year from school. You are an October baby so we want to wait, give you time to mature. With that we are faced with the choice of sending you to preschool this fall or not. A part of me wants you to go, to be sure you know how to cope & listen. But the other part just wants you to be a little boy for another year without any pressure. You are with Nana--a sweet and wonderful opportunity for you to be loved. So no preschool yet. I do wonder though & hope every day that Daddy & I made the right choice.

Design note:

Being a teacher, I just love the school line of patterned papers and stickers. The "My School Notes" sticker was perfect for the title for my notebook. I mounted the smaller, circular stickers onto cardstock, added brads on some and then used the Scrap Dots glue to add dimension when I adhered them. I drew the stitched lines onto the paper. I plan to use this myself for the upcoming school year, but think it would make a great teacher's gift too!
