“You should be able to walk into a room and know
who lives there.” - Thom Filicia
Have you ever watched the TV show “Dress My
Nest”? Design guru Thom Filicia shows women how
to find their true style, and live in it. Take
a look around your “nest”. Do certain colors
stand out in your closet or jewelry box? What
about your walls or mantle? Is there a certain
color scheme to your living room? This month,
the Kit Club was challenged to scrap our
personal style. When I first started walking
around my house these were the questions I asked
myself.
Our layout was to be based on 6 photos: three of
our personal fashion (clothing to accessories),
two of our style (home items), and one of a
piece of art (painting, poster, etc.). What
would inspire our layouts? Read on to find out!

Journaling: 7.26.2008 Before we knew
it, Peyton & McKenna were up to their elbow
in the ice bucket!
Design note: Man, this was a
tough one! I've never seen the show and now
I fear it! I started this project three
times and it took me an entire month to
complete it. For my three fashion items, I
chose my favorite black shoes (favorite
because they're my most comfortable!),
a brown/pink polka-dotted shirt (new, a gift
from my aunt, not from my own shopping!) and
one of my favorite dresses of McKenna's
(figures, I had to go to my daughter's
closet to complete my fashion inspiration!).
I also chose my two style items - my
favorite peace lily plant and my silver
earrings I wear all the time (figures,
another "new" item - birthday gift from my
mom!). My art item that caught my eye was
this Chinese tea set (also a gift) given to
us as an engagement present. So I think that
brings us to three chosen by me, three
inspiration pieces that were gifts - see why
I had trouble choosing? However, once
chosen, the inspiration just poured out! Now
I love this game! From my shoes I chose
black as a predominant color. From my shirt,
I chose circles - I love using and seeing
circles in scrapbooking - and used two great
big ones. McKenna's dress inspired me to go
for a patchwork-type pattern, which instead
of creating, I found in the Dream Street
papers. My plant? I guess it put green
in my mind. The the largest pair of earrings
are actually adorned with diamonds, sparking
some "bling"y inspiration. My tea set is set
upon a gift-wrapped box and adds a nice pop
of color - like the pink on my own page. Put
all that stuff together, and I'm almost
ready to redecorate the house, too!

One Moment by: Brianne Nevill.
Supplies: Paper, Stickers: Basic Grey,
Metal: We R Memory Keepers, Grunge Mask:
Jessica Sprague, Ink: Clearsnap, Other:
Corkboard,
Font: High Strung, CK Curly.
Journaling: As your dad and I
drove to the doctor’s office on July 20th, I
remember feeling very anxious. Your dad
must have been feeling the same because he
took my hand and gave it a squeeze. When we
arrived at the downtown Tampa office, we
were met with the unyielding Florida heat.
After what had to be the longest walk ever
taken, we arrived in our OB/GYN office.
They took us back to the ultrasound room and
had me lay down on a very uncomfortable
table. Cold, clear jelly was squirted onto
your little bump and the technician placed
the transducer on Mommy’s belly. The sound
that filled the room consumed me. Steady
whooshing noises squelched any fears I had
and provided a melody for the moment. The
question, “do you want to know the sex?”
brought me back to the moment as we both
answered a resounding “yes!”. A quick shift
of the transducer and a turn of the monitor
answered our nagging guesses… “It’s a boy!”
Daddy jumped right out of his chair,
thrusting his arms into the air like a
triumphant gold medalist. In that
definitive moment, our mother and son bond
had begun.
Design note: Almost EVERYTHING about
me revolves around blocking. From my living
room to my closet, my walls to my son’s
building blocks, you will find them ALL over
my house. It comes as no surprise to see
them all over my pages. I LOVE the color
black so when I started thinking about
pictures, I immediately thought about the
ultrasound pictures I had yet to scrap.
When I started looking through paper, the
first line that jumped out at me was Scarlet
Letter by Basic Grey. It has ALL the colors
of my home and screams “Brianne”. The
motivational poster is totally me, so I had
to add a quote to my page. The white space
of my page really finished it off for me as
I am not a big fan of clutter.

Journaling:
A few months ago we decided it was time that
Aryanna had a little brother or sister. On
July 12th, 2008 I had a positive pregnancy
test. I was both excited and worried about
the news. You see, last April I was pregnant
and it turned out that I had a blighted ovum
– an empty sac with no baby inside. I was so
heartbroken. So this go around I was a bit
worried that the same thing would occur. On
August 2nd, I had my first appointment.
Luckily they did an ultrasound and I got to
see the little heartbeat for the first time.
A wave of relief washed over me. It’s really
happening! We really are pregnant! Now the
big question is – boy or girl? I’m secretly
hoping it’s a boy. 8-13-08
Editor’s note:
Diana did a good job of pulling the same
tones from her inspiration into her layout.
The bling (earrings) around the middle
circle (plates) really pulls the readers
attention to the subject.
